ChoiceComics.net -- another webcomic directory

andrael's picture

ChoiceComics.net is a fairly new listing site where users can submit, rate, and review webcomics. Aside from being able to add comics to your favorites, you can also have your own personal Top Ten list. One of the main differences between this site and, say, OnlineComics.net, is that comic listings can be instantly submitted and modified by anyone, not just the comic's creators. In that sense, it's kind of like a combination of a wiki and a toplist.

It says on the site that it's still in beta mode, and the webmaster seems to be actively soliciting feedback, as well as tinkering with the site and adding new features.

I Dislike Numbered Reviews

You know I've always been annoyed by "numbered" reviews - this one's a 3, that's one's a 2.5. It's always seemed fairly meaningless without a bit of explanation of why the reviewer likes it or not

But otherwise it's an interesting twist on OnlineComics.net to allow the users to edit all entries.

Don't forget about the Webcomics Encylopedia though Cool

I've just checked this site

I've just checked this site out. Although there is the possibility to give a simple "numbered" review, the site does encourage full written reviews within which reviewers are able to assign separate scores for artwork, writing and website design, as well as providing a full commentary.Â

As I understand it, full reviews are given more "weight" in a comic's overall score than simple "numbered" reviews.

No system is ever going to be perfect but, if ChoiceComics does take off, it could be of far more use to new comics than, say, TWC or BuzzComics which simply perpetuate the dominance of comics which already have a large established fanbase.

It'll be interesting to watch this one.
