Webcomic Telethon benefitting Hurricane Katrina victims
Submitted by Brad Guigar on September 1, 2005 - 14:25
Blank Label Comics is hosting a webcomic telethon to aid victims of Hurricane Katrina. It will be held the week of Sept. 12 at www.webcomictelethon.com. Actual dates are to be announced later.
Brad Guigar, who has organized previous webcomics telethons benefitting MDA (http://mda.altbrand.com/01mda.shtml), is organizing the event.
All of the revenue generated from site advertising, donations, and proceeds from merchandise bought through the site will be donated to the Red Cross to help in disaster relief.
The site will be updated several times during the course of the telethon with new comics, encouraging readers to come back often to see the new strips and donate money when their favorites are displayed.
If you'd like to participate, please do the following:
(1) Contact Brad Guigar at bguigar@yahoo.com and tell him you will be participating. This will help us plan the event.
(2) Do a comic. Now. It doesn't have to be about hurricanes or disasters or the importance of charity... but those themes are appreciated. The final should be no wider than 600 pixels. Any depth is fine. Do not include a large title, in the image... that will be included in a text line under your comic, linked back to your site.
(3) Send your comic to bguigar@yahoo.com. GIF, PNG and JPEG are all acceptable formats. In your e-mail, include your name(s), the title of your strip, and your URL.
(4) Spread the word. Watch www.webcomictelethon.com for banners and buttons to use to start alerting your readers. Blog about it. Post it on your sites. Get the word out.
Two Best of Books from Greystone Inn
Submitted by Xaviar Xerexes on September 1, 2005 - 11:27
Brad Guigar has just come out with two books collecting selected strips from his webcomic Greystone Inn and Guigar has reworked them into the typical vertical graphic novel format (Greystone Inn is usually presented in a horizontal strip format). One, Prodromal Teeth, collects the pregnancy storyline that main characters Mac and Sammie went through. The other, Lightning Lady, collects strips about popular character, reformed supervillain, Lightning Lady.
Webcomics Updates

Can someone help me with the details on the KomiKazen International Festival of Reality Comic Strips? I don't read Italian but this seems pretty cool. It takes place from September 30 to November 2nd.
I didn't see as many webcomics comment on Pat Robertson's foreign policy pronouncement as I might have expected. Luckily Dangerpest steps up to the plate.
Bob Stevenson writes a bit in his blog about his decision to leave More Fun. (Stevenson did some great work on this series, written of course, by Shaenon Garrity. This episode in particular, I just love the way Stevenson has the hero sit on top of the panel at a couple points.)
It happened while I was on vacation and so is a bit overdue, but congrats to both Ping Teo and Eric Burns for the one year anniversary of their respective blogs, Webcomic Finds and Websnark.
And now for a completely random moment of superhero-related humor: two webpages on the 1979 Saturday Night Live skit about a party at the Flash's house. (link from memepool)
And lot's of sites linked to this one: Betty Boop is the newest Hooters employee. Submitted without comment...
Please Help The Hurricane Victims

We're a webcomic news site not THE NEWS but I've been as stunned as anyone by the immense scale of the disaster in New Orleans and the surrounding Gulf Port. If you can give, please do either at the Red Cross website or if it's easier (the Red Cross site is slow today) you can do it through Amazon's website here. If anyone else has any good ideas for aiding the victims of Katrina please post a comment or send an email and I'll add it here.
