I usually find VG Cats funny even if I have no idea what it's parodying. But the current one is totally "Comics I Don't Understand".
A Gracias to Current Comixpedia Advertisers
Submitted by Xaviar Xerexes on January 31, 2006 - 13:46
I don't do this often enough, but I really am grateful to everyone who advertises with Comixpedia - because of them we've been able to cover hosting costs and shell out some cash to our contributors.
Our current advertisers include the webcomics Kitty Litter, Front Beat, Misfit's Journey, Framed: North Carolina, Astronaut Elementary and Onezumi.com - their site not only features their webcomics but some really great forums - check them out after the Comixpedia forums :)
And our latest advertiser is D.J. Coffman, who has a new monthly Yirmumah! comic book coming out.
Be sure to check them all out!
Artist Alley Controversy Brewing At This Year's Otakon
Submitted by harknell on January 31, 2006 - 11:58
Otakon is the first con to announce a "no fanart" policy for their Artist Alley, which outlaws the selling of commissions or prints that utilize any depictions of copyrighted material, even though the artwork involved is original and not a reproduction of any actual existing images (think Inuyasha on a Chocobo).
The issues relevant to webcomics relate to the possible banning of "sprite comics" or any comics that utilize depictions of copyrighted properties to tell their stories. If "fanart" is banned, then these most certainly fall under that distinction.
Copyright is a very important area, but Otakon's absolute position will now prohibit many of the usual activities of a con that are expected by the attendees in regard to artists (such as being able to commission original artwork of their favorite characters), along with setting up a precedent that threatens Anime Music Videos, Cosplay competitions, and the appearance of many webcomics.

2006 Rate Card For Banner Ads Up
Submitted by Xaviar Xerexes on January 31, 2006 - 01:01
Advertising is our only revenue source (right now anyway) -- which helped me pay the writers of Comixpedia some cash last year and hopefully will let us do so again. We have two options right now - the vertical sponsor ads on the right which run for set periods of time (one week, two weeks, etc) and the horizontal banner ads which run for a set number of impressions (everytime a banner loads on the site it is an impression).
I posted the new rate card for banner ads at Comixpedia. Although I took away the $5 option (it's just too much hassle unfortunately) I bumped up the impressions for the other options.
Also, if anyone else has any ideas for Comixpedia to make some more money gracefully (I don't want to turn the site into the million dollar homepage or anything) please post/email your suggestions.
