COMIXPEDIA
- Lots of PW ad slots available for FREE at frightnight.org. These may be worth a bit more in February (more details on that next week).
INTERVIEWS
- Interview with political cartoonist Ted Rall at Suicide Girls (webpage might be NSFW) (LINK via Journalista!)
ADVERTISING
- In addition to the product-placement Gieni-Crosby-penned Wicked Powered, Microsoft has a webcomic called The Enchanted Office up about its new Office product.
- Project Wonderful was down for a blip this morning but appears to be back up. There are a few new sizes of ads available to use thru PW now - 728x90 and 125x125.
JUSTIFY MY HYPE
- I just read Thunder & Lightning at ComicGenesis by Cassandra Matteis and Lara Whitaker. It's got a lot of pretty generic manga-flavored art set in a pretty generic fantasy-flavored world, but the twist in the first chapter involving the werewolf character changed my mind towards it: it's uneven, but I'm hopeful the creators stick with it. Check it out - it won't take long for you to read the whole archives.
- The Beat likes the new webcomic Inanna’s Tears written by Rob Vollmar and illustrated by mpMann.
AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 BLOGS
- Christopher Butcher throws out down some markers for separating real publishers from... well those folks who will fail I guess. Comic books do have a fairly low barrier to entry although I've never seen a serious article laying out the capital needs to at least make a realistic attempt at success (although I haven't looked hard for such an article yet - go go lazyweb!) (LINK via Journalista!)
- Comics Make No Sense does to comic books what The Comics Curmudgeon does to comic strips. Nuff said!
- The Ferrett asks if FBOFW's Liz is secretly the most attractive woman in Canada! (er or something similar)

- United Media is looking for Assistant Editor for Comic. This is the syndicate Ted Rall works for and that signed R Stevens and his webcomic Diesel Sweeties. (link from T Campbell)
- Bring Your Own Awesome is looking for a new artist (doesn't that title sound like something Ryan North should be writing?). The writer is Connor Mooney, a twenty-something student at SUNY Albany (which should give you some sense of what the comic has been about so far).
INTERVIEWS
- Wizard interviews Nick Gurewitch, creator of Perry Bible Fellowship. Gurewitch mentions that the first print collection of PBF is due this September or October.
NOT COMICS
- Ctrl-Alt-Del reminds you to prepare for the coming of the videogaming holiday Wintereenmas.

- I was not previously aware of the romantic effects of the early britpop years. Thank you Scary Go Round!
- Fabricari's artcam returns!
- New webcomic from the Crying Macho Man: Honey Bear.
AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 BLOGS
- Websnark is back with the almost obligatory comment on the end of Narbonic and an interesting spin on Home On The Strange. My immediate reaction to Eric's post on HOTS was that he was reading way too much into it to fit it into a neat little framework he had cooked up but still an interesting essay. In the comments, both creators of HOTS show up at the very end and add a few reactions to the post.
- FLEEN looks at the webcomic Russell's Teapot.
- More star-studded comments on the year that was 2006 at The Beat: part 3 (includes Shaenon Garrity and Svetlana Chmakova), part 2 (includes Dean Haspiel and ) and part 1.

Random New Webcomic Plug
Submitted by Xaviar Xerexes on January 2, 2007 - 14:57
Entropia looks pretty promising. So far it's set the premise (two roommates - one the protagonist, one "wacky", a girlfriend (to the protagonist, and a plot - protagonist is going to pitch a script to a studio) which is vaguely sci-fi and been pretty consistent in art and writing. Both are not AMAZING (yet), but both are pretty good and I enjoyed it enough to submit it to Piperka.net and to come back to check out new updates. (Maybe this joke has been told before but I thought the Pandora's box jokes in this one were perfectly "stupid-funny")

Project Wonderful Update
Submitted by Xaviar Xerexes on January 1, 2007 - 22:56
Some great new changes to Ryan North's Project Wonderful auction ad service including two I thought I'd highlight:
1. You can bid on ad "boxes" - this means if you want an ad on Comixpedia, for example, you can bid once for the cheapest of the three PW slots here.
2. Bids by the penny below ten cents - this is good for smaller sites where you might buy an ad for 4 or 5 cents but not the previous minimum of 10 cents.
Second - I'm putting sometime in focusing on the webcomics encyclopedia at comixpedia.org to try and improve it and make it more valuable to the Comixpedia community. I think I've sorted out how to run Project Wonderful ads on it now - they're fairly unobtrusive and should help bring in a few more dollars to the Comixpedia coffers so I can start paying people to work on things around here again. If you're interested go to Comixpedia.org now.

(We're doing something slightly different with the cover art code this month - if you see anything weird on your browser could you post here or send me an email with OS/Browser and Screen resolution? Thanks!)
