New Plot Arc begins for BiBP

The BiBP (Buddies in Big Places) webcomic (www.bibp.com) will begin a new plotline with its 708th strip on 30 June, 2003! Entitled "Too Big for Diapers," it involves a very wild look into the antics of the Cumbrian Royal Family.

Kip Manley has an interesting piece in his blog Long story; short pier posted on 6/26 called "Why You Don't Read Comics." Much of it first printed in Anodyne Magazine, it's a well-researched thought piece on problems in the comics industry now and in 1998 (when the original article was printed). It touches briefly on web comics in a couple of places and is otherwise just pretty darned interesting. Direct link here.

WirePop extends submission due date

WirePop -- www.wirepop.com -- The first online publisher and subscription site of Manga and Manga-styled English comics, announced today that it will be extending the initial submission phase for the WirePop.com comic line-up. George Panella, WirePops' Publisher, made this decision after receiving many requests by eager artists that more time was needed. "I felt it was only fair to give everyone a decent amount of time to submit their work. Since it is summer and many people are busy it seemed to make sense that more time would be needed." said Panella. "I think this extension will give WirePop a better variety of comics to choose from to add to the final line up."
WirePop will publish 20 exclusive webcomics on it's upcoming website WirePop.com by independent comic book creators. "There are a lot of very talented artists just waiting to be published and bring their great stories and art to the public eye," said Panella "and WirePop is here to help them get there."
The extended submission now ends on July 31, 2003. "Now's the time to submit and join this growing company." said Panella.

Pushdot Studio, a gallery dedicated to archival-quality prints of digital art located in Portland, Oregon, is showing for the month of July "The Art of Storytelling: Comics in the Digital Age," a collection of work by seven cartoonists who either publish on the web, or use a computer to create their work.

WirePop announces the addition of Realms of Ishikaze

Zombie Beat Poets. Dig?

Goats: The Comic Strip, in association with Fox Searchlight, Special Ops Media, and Brains4Zombies.com, is running a Zombie Haiku Contest in celebration of the upcoming release of 28 Days Later (the new British zombie flick opening on June 27th).
Contestants must post a zombie-themed haiku in the Goats forums. The best and worst haikus will win a Zombie Pack, including an official 28 Days Later Backpack, dog tags, and poster, as well as an original zombie-themed character sketch from Goats artist Jonathan Rosenberg.
