Ode to a Good Webcomic Navigation System

Dear Navigation System, how I love you so. You make it easy for me to read my favorite comics, and without you I would be lost. Whither thou goest, so go I, and woe betide the webcomic that forsakes your charms. For if it does not think it important that it be easy for me to read through the wonders contained within its pages, so shall I value it not worth reading and seek pleasure elsewhere. Oh Navigation System, let me enumerate your virtues for the world to see.

Drawing Strong Women: How to Repair Heroes for Hire #13

Kudos to cartoonist Lea Hernandez for demonstrating how easily Marvel could have turned the very disappointing sexually exploitative cover of Heroes for Hire #13 into a much better piece of art, and for proving you can let your female superheroes be sexy without being victims. (Warning: Graphic links, while from a comic rated ages 12 and up, may still be considered non-safe for work.)

Help Danielle Corsetto Quit Her Day Job

Danielle Corsetto creates the damn funny Girls With Slingshots comic and she recently posted her plan to go to 5 a week updates for GWS.

She's taking June off (b/c of vacation and other obligations) to get ahead - in the meantime, she says if GWS readers:

raise enough to pay my bills for the rest of the year, I'll spend July-December 2007 writing & drawing GWS 5 times a week (with color Sundays if I can swing it!) and working on tee shirts, stuffed McPedros & other merchandise, a cleaner website with a better archive system, an RSS feed, a small forum, and FINALLY, a collected print version of the strips.

The official donation drive will begin next Monday. GWS will return July 1st.

Comix Movies: Worst To Best

Rotten Tomatoes has a cool feature up ranking a whole bunch of movies adapted from comix (according to their Rotten Tomato aggregated critics score of course!). A few surprises in terms of rankings and many movies I'd forgotten about (or never even heard of).

Tips and Tricks: Spreading The Love

Every so often, someone goes into the DrunkDuck Tips and Tricks forum and share some of their own art tricks with the community. It's a really kind thing to do since that kind of contribution takes time and time is a valuable resource.

So I figure, why not share the love? Read on for some tips and tricks from various artists!

DrunkDuck At Wizard World

Carly Mizzou is now taking sign-ups for Wizard World Chicago for DrunkDuck members. Like the previous two Wizard World gatherings, space will be broken up based on the number of users interested.

She also released the list of DrunkDuck participants for Wizard World Philadelphia. This year DrunkDuck/Platinum Studios will also be hosting a panel and a competition during the convention.

New Collective of Webcomics: Teenbit

This looks pretty smart - a step older than Lunchbox's "all ages" concept is Teenbit -- featuring comics about teenagers. (Comics will be PG-13 and G-rated) As the site says -- these comics are all trying to capture something about the teenage years. With heavy hitters Penny & Aggie, Red String, and other good looking comics like Ugly Girl, Geek Blather, Masters of the Art, Subculture of One, YU+ME: Dream, and The Broken Mirror this looks like a great site to bookmark.
