Further scatterbrained thoughts about the future of Print & Digital comics

Here are some further scatterbrained thoughts on the debates around Print vs. Web and the economics of web reading.

As established in my recent post, I don’t think the next generation of kids will have a problem with reading things digitally, and won’t miss the experience of print that so many of us romanticize. But that also means these kids are getting used to the idea that online reading is supposed to be free, and it’s going to be interesting to see if that can be changed.

New theme song for Teen Boat's friends?

We are one step closer to a world ready for a Teen Boat live action movie...

Dare to dream!

talking about the future

My panel at ICV2 was so early in the morning I thought I'd be completely incoherent. But I guess some people thought I made sense.

A panel discussion between Ira Rubenstein, executive vice president of Marvel’s Global Digital Media Group, Dave Roman, cartoonist and associate editor of Nickelodeon Magazine, and Stuart Levy, chief executive officer of Tokyopop.

NYCC 09 plans

Comics Bakery isn't exhibiting at the New York Comic Con this weekend but that means I'll be able to check out the con as an actual human rather than booth slave for the first time in like 10 years!

I'll also be a some panels and cool places:

Del Rey Manga Panel
SATURDAY 11:15 AM
Room 1A06
Come see the unveiling of some pages from the forthcoming X-Men: Misfits manga! Raina and I will be on hand to chat, answer questions, talk about how sparkly shojo is.

Kids Love Comics Booth

What the?

According to [info]leborcham NY Comic Con is going to be October next year? And that will be its' new permanent time slot for years to come! That means it will be the end of the big con year schedule instead of the beginning.
I have no idea how I feel about this. What do you think?

What big eyes you have!

I just came across this quote from a fairly well informed writer who I generally respect:

"*insert show title here* was created to be a Western approximation of certain Anime styles, which apparently includes the odd decision that Anime filmmakers and designers often opt for, that of making all their characters look more Caucasian than anything else. "

Avoid Death

I always wanted to make a video using signs like this...and now I don't have to!

I'm an especially huge fan of the guy with the lightening going through his chest. Best sign ever.

ICV2

Hey, comics high rollers. I'll be at the ICv2 Graphic Novel Conference.

Here is a description of the panel I'll be on:

Comics on the Web--Marketing Tool or Revenue Stream?
Are comics on the Web a way to build audiences for properties that can then be monetized by sales of collections and licensing, or a critical source of advertising, DTO, or subscription revenue on their own? Join our panelists as they discuss what’s working and what’s not in this potentially transformative arena.
