Jake Black Benefit, Schlock on the Cheap

Jake Black benefit at Dragon's KeepToday, Saturday September 12th, is the benefit at Dragon’s Keep for my cancer-fightin’ friend Jake. I’ll be at the Keep from 10:00am to 5:00pm, and most of the other creators will be there from about noon ’till 5:00.

Which other creators? Here’s a quick roll-call!

A Very Special Captain Tagon on the Auction Block

Oh, look! Captain Tagon, in his new uniform, and in color.

Captain Kaff Tagon, by Howard Tayler, colored by Keliana

It’s a simple pose, really. I chose it because I wanted to keep things as simple as possible. You see, I handed this picture to my oldest daughter for coloring.

This ain’t fridge-art, folks.

9 at Noon on the 10th comes in 6th

These post titles are too much fun to write. I see why newspaper headlines are often so horrible.

I saw the noon showing of 9 today. Fun film, gorgeous visuals, straightforward story, no seizure-inducing shakycam… I had a good time. My summer movie “how much fun I had at the theater” rankings for 2009 now look like this:

1. Star Trek

2. Up

3. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

4. Gamer

5. Inglourious Basterds

6. 9

7. District 9

The Gamers in Gamer Scare Me

I saw Gamer this evening, and I should preface anything I say about the film with this: I must have been in the mood for exactly this movie.

My rating system is not an attempt to judge the relative merits of this summer’s films, nor to offer sage insight into what you, the Schlock Mercenary reader will enjoy. No, this system just ranks how much fun I had at the theater.

I had a lot of fun this evening.

1. Star Trek

2. Up

3. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

4. Gamer

WordPress Upgraded, Hijinks Ensue

I upgraded the WordPress installation here at Blógünder Schlock, and was promptly locked out of my ability to administer the system. So I poked my tech guy, he reset my password, and my administrative privileges magically returned to me.

This is not your problem. Why should you care?

Because if you post comments as a registered user, it’s entirely possible that your password has gone AWOL. If you have problems logging in, just use the “Lost my Password” function, and all will be peachy.

Happy Labor Day!

Happy Labor Day, fellow Americans. And for those of you living in places that aren’t celebrating Labor Day, celebrate it the way I do: work!

For a self-employed guy in a down economy, I can’t think of a better commemoration of something called “Labor Day.”

Jake Black Benefit September 12th at Dragon’s Keep

Jake Black benefit at Dragon's KeepOn September 12th, which is one week from this Saturday, a group of comics creators will descend on Dragon’s Keep in Provo, Utah to help our friend Jake.

140, Not Counting The Title

The difference between Blogunder Schlock and my Twitter feed is that on Blogunder I can luxuriate in the absence of a 140-character limit…

Gloriously Inglourious

My good friend Richard invited me to drop what I was doing and see Inglorious Basterds with him. I had no idea what to expect, other than that this was a Quentin Tarantino film and would therefore feature some incredible dialog and over-the-top graphic violence. Oh, and Brad Pitt with a big knife — I remember that much from the one trailer I’d seen.

This film is my new Number Four for the summer, which leaves the standings as follows:

1. Star Trek

2. Up

3. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

As is usual when we ship books to a major event, some of the books which returned from GenCon were damaged in transit.  Forklifts are not kind to books.  We are now offering these scuffed, dented, or bent books for sale in the store at discounted prices.
