So this is why there’s so much hype. An entire ballroom full of people at tables playing RPGA-sanctioned games of D&D. And then two more ballrooms full of people playing boardgames. And yet another full of table-top wargamers with beautifully-painted miniatures… and that was at 9:00pm on Saturday.

I’m back from GenCon Indy, but I’m far too tired to write about it. I decompressed at the movies today, and I’m glad I did. District 9 was pretty powerful.
It wasn’t what I was expecting, but that’s because I had almost zero expectations. I’d only seen one trailer for the film, and that one only served to provide context: alien refugees are under quarantine of some sort in Johannesburg, South Africa.

I have received word that our two pallets of books have arrived. Tracy, Curtis, and Howard have all arrived. Everything is good to go. This means that I will no longer be plagued with nightmares of plane delays and mis-shipped goods. I don’t expect to hear much from Howard over the next few days. He’s going to be too busy to tweet let alone call. What I hear from him is rather like telegraph messages.
Call 1 “The cash register isn’t working, so we’re going to have to take money by hand.â€
Call 2 “Which credit cards do we accept?â€

Howard and I are back from WorldCon, but we’re still travel-lagged and stumbling over suitcases. It is going to take a few days before things are running smoothly around here. As is so often true, my intentions to blog about WorldCon went unrealized. Blogging is hard when the only places with wifi are public, and therefore full of distractions. Either Howard or I will do an in-depth post about Worldcon and the Hugos once we’re done sleeping and unpacking. For now I’ll just say the most important bit, which is how incredibly happy we both are that Girl Genius won the Hugo instead of us.

I saw G.I. Joe last night with my brother. When the Joe snowmobiles popped out of the Joe VTOL he laughed, turned to me and said “so many vehicles.†And that was before the big fighter-sub dogfight, during which we repeatedly hummed the Cheat Commandos “Buy All Our Playsets And Toys†theme. (It’s okay, though. We were in the handicapped seating so the “seats†next to us were empty slots for wheelchairs.)
I haven’t been to WalMart recently. Is there an entire aisle of new G.I. Joe toys coming off of this film?

Howard and I will be leaving for Worldcon tomorrow. After that Howard spends a week at GenCon. The result is that he will not have much time for blogging here. Howard intends to micro-blog using twitter, so if you want the very latest info, please check his twitter feed or facebook page. I will be attempting to post Schlock related convention highlights here on this blog. My more personal thoughts will go on my blog. If all of that is not enough convention

In order to leave you with uninterrupted Schlock while I do back-to-back conventions, I’ve needed to work a little further ahead than usual. Tayler Corporation Headquarters has been a busy, busy place for a while now.

In ten days Sandra and I fly to Montreal for Anticipation/WorldCon 67, the 67th Annual World Science Fiction Convention. We will not have merchandise with us at this event. We were unable to find a dealer interested in carrying it. Oh well, more time for me to meet people and talk about stuff.

Note from Sandra:
The XDM pre-orders went out today. Sketched Under New Management second printing will go out early next week after Howard has a chance to do the sketching. Thank you to everyone who ordered.  Extra special thanks to the volunteers who cheerfully helped even when the plans had to be shifted around to meet events.
While I am thanking people, I also want to thank everyone who bid on the auctions or donated money. Howard got his iphone yesterday and is now cheerfully contemplating what Schlockish apps can be devised for it.
