Go Read: Children of the Revolution

It’s Science Fair time and daughter unit #2 has been working on her project – how different architectural designs stand up to high winds. With the help of an air compressor, we generated the equivelant of an F1 tornado or Cat. 2 hurricane. Man, that was fun.

Rainbarrels at Casa Broderick
Submitted by Tim Broderick on November 1, 2009 - 18:17
I was able to purchase two rainbarrels this year from the city and finished hooking them up today. They’re not exactly beautiful, but they’re going to help direct water away from the house and we can use the water for the gardens too.
Right now, we’ve got one hooked up to a soaker hose that’s running through the bushes in front while the other has a regular hose running into the back yard.
I have little bit of gutter work left to do, but that’ll have to wait for next year.

Indy bands and self-published comics
Submitted by Tim Broderick on October 15, 2009 - 16:28
The interesting thing about being in two different publishing worlds – comics and mysteries – is the times when one world’s opinions don’t exactly translate to the other.
That’s the case with self-publishing.
In the mystery field, quite understandably, self-publishing is not well thought of. There’s a lot of reasons for this: You can’t get the books into bookstores, there’s a perception (many times justified) that they lack quality and at the end of the day sale numbers are very low.
Cool shot of TRex Sue

Family night at Chicago’s Field Museum. Daughter Unit #2 is taking a course in Museology there this year.
Anyway, you don’t usually get to see Sue with no people around her and the lights down, so I snapped this image.
