A Birthday Memoir: Jack of All Blades Turns One

A little more than one year ago today, amazing artist/funny person Art Frederick approached me about a little pet project he had going on in his spare time. I knew little about web programming, and even less about making comics, but I happily agreed. One year and fifty-one comics later, Jack of All Blades is still missing deadlines and dropping punch lines, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

SomeryC Webcomic Management System Version 0.2.2 Released!

The newest version of SomeryC has been released!

The new software is as easy to install and update as it's predecessors, and includes the following fixes:

  • Â It fixes a bug in the auto-update script which causes the post time to set to 0000-00-00 00:00:00 when first posting a comic.
  • It also fixes a problem when using the navigation buttons (First, Previous, Next, Last) when comics are hidden or comic IDs are not continuous (i.e., you erased some comics from your archives).

Jack of All Blades Turns One!

SomeryC, The Free Comic Engine For Smart Developers, Gets Super Powers!

I remember a day when all SomeryC could do was publish webcomics with deceptive ease. Now, thanks to Shishio, xerexes and voh, SomeryC can not only power out a brilliant webcomic, but it can also generate a random comic link and...

...queue comics for later display.

Comic Books Are User Friendly: Is Your Webcomic?

Books are common technology: You hold it, turn the pages and read the information. There aren’t many people who take a book and can’t understand how to get what they want from it. The same goes for comic books. If someone wants to read a comic book, they simply use it like a normal book, turning pages and taking in the comic.

When moving to the web, technologies have to change. You can’t flip pages on a computer monitor, even though your web-comic is broken up into such. What is the user to do? Adapt.

Webcomic Publishing Made Deceptively Easy With SomeryC

[XEREXES - I haven't tried this out, but I think it's great to see existing code adapted to publishing webcomics.]

Before Art Frederick asked me to work with him on a new comic endeavor, I had no clue how to run a web-comic; however, I had some weblog experience and I figured it would translate over pretty nicely. It turned out that I couldn’t be more right.
