PC Weenies site gets Graphic Tweakage

bobweiner's picture

After many months of neglect, I've revised a few of the graphics on The PC Weenies site to bring them in line with where I want them to be for now. I'm targeting a site make over for September. Let me know what improvements I can make and I will do my best to make the changes. Thanks for reading!

heya bob. my memory is

heya bob. my memory is failing me, so i'm not sure which graphics you updated and which you didn't, but i have to say i'm not really liking the background right now - there's just too much going on in unimportant parts of the page and it draws attention away from your comic. i think as a general rule it's better to avoid having clear representational images in a layout that's made to highlight something image based like a comic. plus it annoys me to see the same picture of Granpa in the background and on the side of your main page for some reason. while the character background could definitely work on a page that is overwhelmingly text, you've done a good enough job working your images into the actual frame of the site that it might be better just to have the plain scanline texture. it'll be easy on the eyes, loop seamlessly and won't be compromised by the screen resolution of your readers.

there are also a few pages where the images of your layout don't line up with the cell arrangement, for example the 'about equipment' page and the 'donate' page. in firefox they are only off by a pixel or two, but in IE the gaps are closer to 10 pixels tall and they screw up the page layout significantly. since you're going to (or going to get someone to) remake the entire site, i suggest engineering it using DIVs rather than tables in as many places as you can (having a body table that splits the page up into a few major sectors and then using divs to position content inside them works pretty well). they're easier to get consistent cross-browser results with, more customizable, and are less of a pain in the ass to tweak in general.

finally, if you're gonna keep the same color scheme going, pick gold & buff OR gold & olive OR olive & buff. not all 3. Â

Thanks for the candid

Thanks for the candid feedback. I will soften the background a bit. When the site is overhauled, I will also fix the pixel issues in the pages you pointed out. I really do appreciate the feedback!

You sexy bitch you

If it isn't broke don't fix it. I really like the design of your site and wouldn't touch it for anything BUT with that said I'm a hypocrite because I love tweaking my site too.Â
