Scanner Recommendations?

bobweiner's picture

Well, after nearly 5 years of service, my Epson Perfection 1670 has given up the ghost. I'm on the prowl for a good scanner and wanted to toss the question out to my fellow webcartoonists. My budget is under $200. I run a Mac, so the scanner will have to be USB and handle penciled art (8.5 x 11) fairly well. Thanks in advance for your help!

I use a Lexmark X1270

I use a Lexmark X1270 All-in-One printer/scanner/fax. It's USB and can easily handle 8.5 x 11 pages or bigger. You can pick one of these badboys up from WalMart for $50. So it's perfect for a low-budget cartoonist. =)

Canon LiDE series

I've a soft spot for the Canon LiDE series. They're inexpensive (around $100 CAD or so), small, USB connected and powered, and you can easily carry it around with a laptop (or so I've been told). They can handle paper up to legal size, so standard letter isn't that much of a problem. They also have both Windows and Mac drivers included, which is a bonus.

Thanks for the feedback! :)

Thanks for the feedback! :) I ended up going with the CanoScan 4400F ($90 at Amazon). Hopefully it will arrive soon, otherwise I'll be behind schedule for next week. :(
