Ben Bittner
Ben Bittner Alive and Comicking
Submitted by Xaviar Xerexes on October 4, 2010 - 09:18

So after mistakenly wondering what had happened to Ben Bittner's websites on Friday I found several recent mentions of him, including an appearance at the 2010 Stumptown Comics Fest (there's a picture of Ben there too). Ben's webcomics include Space Pirate Apocalypse and Cooking with Anne.
This Day in ComixTalk: October 1st
Submitted by Xaviar Xerexes on October 1, 2010 - 15:58

2009: (above) Charles Snow, creator of Sordid City Blues contributed the ComixTalk cover art for the month of October.
2008: We covered the end of the long-running webcomic Cigarro and Cerveja Tony Esteves. The archived comic is still available here.
2007: Jerzy Drozd announced the launch of Sugary Serials - an all ages webcomic anthology site. I interviewed Jerzy at SPX this year -- you can see the video here. Also Tim Demeter wrapped up his webcomic Reckless Life; Cox & Forkum called it quits on their political webcomic; and Jennie Breeden hit the milestone #2000 with her webcomic The Devil's Panties.
2006: In 2006 we had a ComixTalk cover from Ben Bittner, the creator of the webcomics Space Pirate Apocalypse and Cooking With Anne. Unfortunately his website appears to be gone -- anyone reported a more recent online sighting of his work?
2004: T Campbell organized the first meeting of the Washington Webtoonists group.
2003: Chris Onstad's Achewood hit the two year milestone; and 21st Century Fox joined the webcomic collective The Nice.
Updates On Entries in the Ill-Fated Webcomic Directory Project?
Submitted by Xaviar Xerexes on July 24, 2007 - 14:31
I built a "library" of webcomics and creators back in the fall of 2005 which I put into beta before realizing it was too much editorial work to deal with and the same information could be better provided through the community edited webcomic wiki - COMIXPEDIA.
Nevertheless looking back on the assortment of names collected (some from me, some sent in from you) I wonder if anyone has any significant updates on these creators 18 months later. Maybe we should interview some of them?

Brass etching art opening in pdx.
I went ahead and etched my webcomic Cooking with Anne into brass. Silly!
Updating the Feed Lists
Submitted by Xaviar Xerexes on March 22, 2007 - 10:03
When we switched to Drupal one of the nice things I was able to set up was pulling in the RSS feeds of other sites to Comixpedia. That way we do less "link" blogging here but you can still get a sense of what's going on in webcomicland from the syndicated headlines.

Blind Date 2: Best For Last
Submitted by Xaviar Xerexes on February 27, 2007 - 22:19
Well they were all great actually! Today's Blind Date II comics come from:
- The very last one is from Liz Walsh (Tao of Geek) and Andy Floyd (Eat The Roses). Damn you autocomplete!!!
- The one before that is from Ben Bittner (Cooking With Anne) and Alina Pete (Weregeek). I got more dates then my man Zombie Chuck Woolery!
- And the one before that is from Eric Millikin (Fetus-X) and Nicholaus Ivan Ladendorf (NILgravity). Eric was nominated for Outstanding Romantic Comic
twice!
Thanks to everyone who played this year. I always forget how much admin. work these things entail but they're also kind of fun -- I hope others enjoyed reading the resulting comics as much as I did.

Thank God It's Blind Date II
Submitted by Xaviar Xerexes on February 22, 2007 - 19:33
We've got two more excellent Blind Date II comics for Friday!
- Our first comic for Friday is by Chris Chrysis (RPG-TV) and Neil Brideau (Sock-Monster). This one's really about the international trade in
his peniscoffee beans. - Our second comic for Friday is by Ozark (Mind Flayed) and Lance Icarus (+1 Comics). Roleplaying taken inside-out and then some.
We're heading into the home stretch Blind Date II participants! Email me those finished comics by the end of this Sunday, February 25th! The list of creators still yet to report on their "blind date" after the jump (nudge nudge, know what I mean?):
Blind Date II Pairings
Submitted by Xaviar Xerexes on January 27, 2007 - 14:22
Okay after a random drawing of names from a hat - here's your Blind Date II pairings. (Click read more to find out the pairings)
The rules are simple: the two of you brainstorm out and create a comic in the spirit of Valentines Day. Define "spirit of" however you want (we're not going to be as strict as the WCCA is with the Romantic Comics category).
We will start posting submissions on Valentines Day (February 14th) on a first-in, first-up basis and keep posting them as they come in through the month of February. I'd prefer to post the comics at frightnight.org to prevent future link-rot, but I can link to something posted elsewhere too. Either way email me at xerexes AT comixpedia DOT com with the essential information. The absolute deadline for turning in Blind Date II comics will be February 25th.
Also try and link up with your partner early next week - if you have trouble getting connected or someone quits talk to me next week and we'll try to sort something else out for you.
Blind Date II: Electric Boogaloo
Submitted by Xaviar Xerexes on January 11, 2007 - 14:08
It's been too long since 2004's Blind Date so let's do it again this year. We had some discussion over format for it and it was divided so let's do the original format again (I'll use the Border Walker idea for another event later this year). I've posted the archives of Blind Date 2004 at Frightnight.org if you want to check out the first edition.
The format is simple - by signing up you agree to work on a comic with a randomly selected partner (hence the "blind date" part ). The finished comic gets posted at Blind Date II during the week of February 19th.
You can sign-up for Blind Date II starting now through January 26th. Either email me at xerexes At comixpedia Dot coM or post a reply to this post. Include your name, your comic and whether you are an artist, writer or artist/writer (the only exception to the randomness will be that we will make sure not to pair up writer-writer or artist-artist).
We'll pair up partners and send out pairings around January 28th.
We'll being posting finished webcomics for the event the week of February 19th.
Please ask questions here as well so everyone can see the answers.
