Editorial Cartoons not allowed to editorialize?

Okay, this is the second news article I've seen today about outrage over a cartoon! (Here's the first)

Am I missing something? Why are these comics causing so many heated reactions right now? Are comics becoming more powerful? Are they touching more of a nerve then normal? Or is this just a sign of the heated opinions of people over current issues? Could this mean that more censorship may be heading our way?

The State of the Press

Who gets to write about webcomics?

Webcomic Content for Mobile Phones

Saw this on the WebcomicsList - webcomic content for mobile phones from a company called Funkimobile. The list includes Little Gamers, Girl vs. Pig, Diesel Sweeties, BoxJam's Doodle.

Rebooting Comixpedia, Part 3: Contributor Bios and Images

Part of the new publishing platform I'll be rolling out for the new Comixpedia site makes it a lot easier to publish the monthly magazine. Now all contributors will have one biography attached to all stories they write for us. This makes it easier for us (no need to retype each time a new story is published) and better for the contributor (no matter when someone reads a story they see your current biography).

If you've contributed to Comixpedia and want to submit a new bio go ahead and email me. Also, all contributors may now have a 100 x 100 pixel image to go with their stories. If you want to submit one, include it on an email to me.

I just finished loading in all of the stories published in 2003. Click read more for a list of contributors from that year. (One of the nice new features will be the ability to easily see all of the articles each contributor has written for Comixpedia.)

Alternate Press Syndicator Heavy With Webcomics

Here's a link I missed during last month's focus on webcomics-to-print: Creative Comix is a small syndication company focused on the alternative press market. They have quite a few webcomics on their roster of clients including: BoxJam's Doodle, Soap on a Rope, Gluemeat, Lost in Appleton, Innies and Outties, Tex & Jenny, You Damn Kid, and HOUSD.

Here's a few more details for creators on submitting your work to them and a FAQ on the company.

UPDATE: In the comments Rob Balder notes that the Creative Comix contract may not have the most creator-friendly terms.

Friday Follies Update with Xerexes

Here's an assortment of going on's for Friday:

The amazingly odd and funny month of guest art at Gluemeat called Deadmeat is over and new regular webcomics from Case Yorke should resume next week. Now if they would just stop fighting with BoxJam!

How do you explain White Ninja to someone who hasn't read it before? Seriously, I'm asking! Another out of left field big laugh from the brunching ninja today.

I thought these cell phone trailers before the movies were old hat by now, but this PvP is still a funny one.

There's a new issue of the Keenspace Monthly out for July with a cover from McDuffies and a review of Anywhere But Here and an interview with its creators.

Natalie Dee gets some link love from the Drawn! blog. Be sure to check out Exploding Dee if you haven't already.

Last is a webcomic from James Burns called Detached which is a true to life story of Burn's brush with blindness from a detached retina during a busy time in his life. I'm not sure I've made that sound as interesting as it actually is, but this is an authentically engaging piece of journal webcomicing worth a read.

The Keenspot mass exodus

I really don't know whether to laugh or cry :( ... though it is making me nervous ... Schlock Mercenary, ShortPacked, MelonPool, Crazy Larry and ( if it not a joke ) CheckerBoard Nightmare...

Case Yorke - BoxJam Feud Continues on Eve of 500th Gluemeat Installment

Furthering the disintegration of the former Von-Trapp Family like-harmony of the wholesome, family-friendly Altbrand, the Midwest Coast/Not-East Coast feud between BoxJam and Case Yorke continues with the latest salvo coming today from Yorke.

In non-feud Gluemeat news, Yorke will post the 500th installment of his webcomic this Wednesday.

Hey The BoxJam Awards Are Back!

The webcomics community seems a little bigger these days then oh say 2001 or so. One thing from those earlier days that I just realized is still around is BoxJam's Award.

Case Yorke Reports: Is BoxJam Evil or Evil?

Leave it to Case Yorke of Gluemeat to dig up the truth* about BoxJam of BoxJam's Doodle. Click here to watch this startling expose.

*Truth here being stuff that's made up for the sake of humor.
