MAGAZINE
- Terrence Marks did a five part series on married creators this month - be sure to check out all of the interviews: Tod and Corey Marie Parkhill, Andrew Farago and Shaenon Garrity, Scott Kellogg and Kathryn Garrison Kellogg, Mason and Amber Williams, and Dave Roman and Raina Telgemeier.
- We also have a new feature from Sebastian Parsons that speculates about the motivations for creating webcomics. And in our regular columns, Derik Badman examines of a page of Jaime Hernandez's Flies on the Ceiling for Panels & Pictures and Neil Cohn (along with illustrations from Tym Godek) compares speech/thought bubbles and panels for Comics Theory 101.
HEADLINES
- Reinder Dijkhuis has an interesting essay on Project Wonderful. My take on Project Wonderful is that it's a wonderful platform for a web-based advertising system but what remains to be seen is whether it turns into an advertising service. A service needs some entity interacting with traditional media buyers (usually advertising agencies) to sell them ad space on the platform. Whether that's PW creator Ryan North who takes that on or some other arrangement, it's a piece of the puzzle necessary to the long-term success of PW. Don't get me wrong though - I'm a big fan of PW right now and I'm optimistic about it.

- Digital Strips has an interview with Chad Diez, the former artist on The Pet Professional and now working on the relaunched (NSFW) The Sophisticated Pig.
- Earlier this month Digital Strips also had an interview with Wes Molebash on the release of his new book, You’ll Have That, Vol. 2 (DS also reviewed it here).
- Broken Frontiers has an interview (audio) with Chris Hastings, writer and penciler of Dr. McNinja.
JUSTIFY MY HYPE
- You guys all read the Websnark already, but be sure to check out his post about the great sci-fi strip Crimson Dark. I've been reading this since literally Day 3 and it's very good.
- Another Websnark post about which I can agree is this one that says nice things about Bobby Crosby's +EV. Comixpedia reviewed +EV back in October 2006.

- Debbie Ridpath Ohi (the creator of Will Write For Chocolate) lists 5 reasons why she blogs. Following up on Sebastian Parson's article can you list 5 reasons why you webcomic?

- I really like the concept of a "map" as the interface here. A Maps Little Spell is a very cool little site and webcomic worth checking out.
- On the internets you're free to be as NSFW as you wanna be... actually One-Liners isn't visually NSFW but man it can be vulgar. Definitely not for everyone, but if you like some shock and raw with your webcomics, check out the relatively new One-Liners by Shishio and -U.

Is the Stereotype Dead?

Before we begin this discussion, I should clarify just what I mean by "stereotype". I do not intend for stereotype to mean racial stereotypes, or even cultural stereotypes. What I plan to evaluate is the character stereotypes that exist in so many webcomics - characters like the hardcore gamer, the amnesia-suffering loner hero anime character, the "frisky" furry or anthro character, etc...

Post-Con...
After being sucked away down the river of that which is The Con, I can now report what happened to it and its survivors.
After traveling for 2 hours from MA to CT, we crossed the bridge into Convention Land. No joke, we actually crossed a bridge. The water was not seen from the bridge, but we assumed it was there. Our tank rolled us into the parking garage and the strange events began to occur.
MoCCA Art Festival 2006

Longform Comics On The Web: That Which Should Not Be

As some of you may know, I make a longform webcomic (thanks for clicking). And I'm using the term "longfom" as to mean serialized story comics.
I've been thinking about webcomics, as I always do, and though I'm lacking access to Rob Balder's holy grail of data, I have managed to notice a few things. First off, gag-strips dominate the webcomics. And second off, longform comics don't.
Duh~
Now, this isn't meant to be a debate over Art vs. Entertainment, nor Quality vs. Quantity. We all know those topics have been done to death, and have no value save their acting as a platform to launch pissing contests.
This is meant to air a thought/ reinvention of the wheel, I had that I think may be discussion-worthy.
Longform comics have no place in what we now know as webcomics.

Lore reports there are two new additions to DayFree press: Dr. McNinja, and Stuff Sucks. but I see no confirmation of that at the DayFree site or the two webcomics mentioned.
So file this one under "story developing..."
