Updates On Entries in the Ill-Fated Webcomic Directory Project?
Submitted by Xaviar Xerexes on July 24, 2007 - 14:31
I built a "library" of webcomics and creators back in the fall of 2005 which I put into beta before realizing it was too much editorial work to deal with and the same information could be better provided through the community edited webcomic wiki - COMIXPEDIA.
Nevertheless looking back on the assortment of names collected (some from me, some sent in from you) I wonder if anyone has any significant updates on these creators 18 months later. Maybe we should interview some of them?

Thursday Sicko Journalist News Post
Submitted by Xaviar Xerexes on June 28, 2007 - 13:07
I'm not a journalist, but I am sick so please wipe your hands after reading today's post...
LEGAL
- Comics Worth Reading has some links to thoughts on digital piracy of comics. Also earlier this month, a bit on downloading manga and what that might mean for North America.
TECHNOLOGY
- There was a brief blip of attention this month for Adobe's new E-reader thingee. Anyone believe the hype?
INTERVIEWS
- Finding Wonderland interviewed Kazu Kibuishi, Gene Yang and Svetlana Chmakova. Great stuff!
- Short piece on Steve Purcell, the creator of the Eisner-nominated Sam & Max webcomic.
JUSTIFY MY HYPE
- Sequel to Rumble Girls: Silky Warrior Tansie is now starting up online: Runaway Lightning Ohmry. (h/t CWR)
- It's probably not negative enough to catch on...
but check out Useful Lies, a new Websnarky-like blog mostly (so far) about webcomics. - The webcomic The Paranormals officially launches.
- I'm not sure if I linked to this review of Multiplex or not. Whatever, I like Multiplex more and more as time goes on for its ability to do movie jokes and build characters and storylines well.
- What is "noir-fu"? The Retriever knows!
HOW-TO
AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 BLOGS
- The Phoenix has a story on Ryan North of Dinosaur Comics, Nicholas Gurewitch of The Perry Bible Fellowship, Dorothy Gambrell of Cat and Girl, and Joey Comeau of A Softer World.
- Think I saw this on Journalista! first - Hope Larson's Kiss sketchbook from MoCCA. Clever idea...
Appreciation and Analysis of Webcomic Artists
Submitted by Xaviar Xerexes on March 27, 2007 - 11:17
One of the types of features I'd like to run more of are the sort of appreciation and analysis of an artist/writer that Shaenon Garrity gave to Jason Shiga back in our February 2003 issue. Besides giving me an excuse to link to an article that is still a good read, I'd like to ask folks to suggest the names of creators who you'd like to see Comixpedia write up in this kind of a profile.
Very Small Post
Submitted by Xaviar Xerexes on January 17, 2007 - 10:42
Dorothy Gambrell does wonderful, whimsical charts on her blog Very Small Array. This one tracks the popularity of her Cat and Girl book relative to world population. Canadians love their Cat and Girl!
This one - a year in review - tracks various things. Gambrell seems to do this one every year. I just really like the way Gambrell communicates visually - her sensibility is apparent in all her comics, but sometimes I think this other non-comic stuff is more representative of some "ur-Gambrell" quality she has.
Also add Gambrell to the "webcomics goin' to hell in a handbasket" list for this one.
Comixpedia's People Of Webcomics List For 2006
It's the third annual Comixpedia People Of Webcomics List. This was the hardest one yet to compile. There's a lot of webcomics and a lot of people doing interesting things in and around webcomics. This list, as in past years, is an odd effort to compare apples and oranges: artistic achievement, audience popularity, technical achievement, business savvy, news-making impact all go into the mix.

It's been one year since the founding of Blank Label Comics.
New Peter Bagge webcomic on the "war on drugs" at Reason magazine. Cranky middle-age libertarian goodness!
Kris Straub is working on a second Starslip Crisis book and his webcomic has just hit the one year mark as well.
