During our last Clatch meeting, (thanks again to Otter for the spread), it was decided that we should do another NCWCCC anthology. Here are all the specs we have so far.

In the eternal struggle between "story comics" and "gag comics," I tend to come down on the side of the long form. Yes, a little chuckle is good, but I'd rather follow characters through an adventure, even if that adventure is just them trying to return a library book or attending a "meet the tenants" party in their apartment building.

I have about fifty more of these fully inked. It's a new series I've been working on called "Something Great", which will be my first foray into creating a direct-to-print comic strip series (as opposed to a webcomic, which I already have too many of). Five per issue have been running in Razorcake, so you'll see those too once new issues come out, as usual. Otherwise, patience is your best hope for ridiculousness.

It's snapshot of the ComixTalk archives time again. Here's a look back at what we were writing about on January 24th in years past.
- krysilis was seeking an artist for a comics project. Did s/he find one? Only the Intertubes know...
- Crying Macho Man plugged his latest comic "FOXY".
- DAJB plugged the latest developments in his comic Shades.
- Oren launched a new webcomic (still going!) called Mini Cactuses Starring Ned the Chainsaw Guy.
2006:
- Jason Salsbury was looking for a new artist for his webcomic Pet Professional. This wasn't the first or the last artist on the comic. Eventually Salsbury turned to Chad Diez to do the art on the comic - but Diez eventually dropped out in early 2007 (for the scoop on that check out the DS interview with Diez here). It looks like Pet Professional is on hiatus now.
- Julia Wertz launched her journal webcomic The Fart Party.
- Dave Wright, and several webcomic creators banded together to create The Biggest Loser website which chronicled their attempt to lose weight and raise some money for UNICEF in the process. It looks like this project is dead, dead, dead as the website URL has expired.

- Ping Teo looked at the "essence of" the webcomic GPF.
- Eric Burns reviewed the webcomic Goats.
- Al Schroeder interviewed Kris Straub during his Checkerboard Nightmare days.

Every Content Industry Is Facing Major Change... But Does Comics Have a Rick Rubin?

This is an utterly great article in the NYTimes Magazine about the chaos in the music industry and superstar producer Rick Rubin's new gig as co-CEO of Columbia Records. Rubin has made great albums with unknowns (Beastie Boys, RHCP) and so-well-knowns (Johnny Cash, Neil Diamond) and now he's trying to reinvent Columbia Records. It's not an easy project and it's not clear there's any easy path to success.
Like all content industries comics is going through big changes. I'm not sure who the equivalent of Rick Rubin would be for comics. Could you imagine handing over the reins of Marvel to Warren Ellis? I'd like to see that future actually...
UPDATE: While we're here let's throw in a link to a recent on-webomics post from our wandering Websnark, Eric Burns. The first half is nice review of how wrong Berke Breathed was about the path of the comics industry when he introduced his newspaper strip Opus. Breathed tried to draw a newspaper-only line in the sand and the sand has shifted so much that he's now on Salon and the web with everyone else. (The other half of Burns' post is musing about conspiracies between the Washington Post newspaper and the Washington Post Comic Syndicate to gin up controversery over a recent series of Opus strips on religon. Note to Eric: The paper Washington Post doesn't even play that nice with the website Washington Post (they are two different divisions actually) so I'd say odds are pretty good that the paper and the syndicate don't talk much either.)
Entitlement and Derivative Works

I have seen some discussions recently about Eric Von Websnark's suggestion that For Better or For Worse fans appropriate and repurpose the comic. There are some very interesting (and heated) comments going on over at that post, so people should check those out, but I want to talk about entitlement and derivative works.

Now that there's a comixtalk (news) and a comixpedia (wiki) I went into the various entries at comixpedia (comixpedia.org) trying to clean it up.
