Koko Be Good by Jen Wang
Submitted by Xaviar Xerexes on October 5, 2010 - 06:48

Koko Be Good by Jen Wang is a beautiful book. The art is just a joy to look at; there are many, many panels I'd consider works of art all by themselves. The comic as a whole is absolutely worth getting, it's a very interesting, thought-provoking story with lively characters and a tone that mixes seriousness with fun.
Be Good Be Good, Be Good Koko

I got a package of books to review from First Second recently. I can say without hesitation after my first read of it that Koko Be Good by Jen Wang is going to be extremely well-received. I absolutely fell in love with the artwork here (and the production values on this book are amazingly good) and the story, while a little thin, has a perfectly proportioned collision between two very different characters that is just a joy to read. (It's the same character, but a different version of the story than this short comic on Wang's website). This book is due out for sale in early September -- I'll have a real review up sometime this month.

Updates On Entries in the Ill-Fated Webcomic Directory Project?
Submitted by Xaviar Xerexes on July 24, 2007 - 14:31
I built a "library" of webcomics and creators back in the fall of 2005 which I put into beta before realizing it was too much editorial work to deal with and the same information could be better provided through the community edited webcomic wiki - COMIXPEDIA.
Nevertheless looking back on the assortment of names collected (some from me, some sent in from you) I wonder if anyone has any significant updates on these creators 18 months later. Maybe we should interview some of them?

People think of manga as coming in 20-volume doses, and sometimes that’s true. But not every story is an epic, and some creators have used the techniques of manga to tell brief tales of romance, magic, and adventure.
Some of these are Japanese and some are not, but all are worth a look. Let's start with two artists who occasionally post short stories on their websites: Queenie Chan and Jen Wang.
