WonderCon 2008
Submitted by Andrew Farago on February 25, 2008 - 04:36
I survived my eighth WonderCon, and actually had myself a pretty good time despite the overbooking and overworking that goes into this thing every year. I'll be doing a big write-up for Animation World Network in the very near future, and I'll post about that here when the time comes, but here are my quick impressions of the show:

WARREN ELLIS
- Does anyone know when Warren Ellis' upcoming Freak Angels is going to debut? UPDATE: Wow - that was almost psychic - Warren Ellis in a post to his email list this morning said the webcomic would launch in February 2008.
AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 BLOGS
- The Comics Reporter reviews a recent Cul-De-Sac comic. This new/old strip by Washington Post illustrator Richard Thompson is quite good. Thompson brings to the comic years of experience creating comics for the Washington Post Sunday magazine. (You can read it online here.)
- Journalista! points to a review of the new Marvel DCU comics service in the LA Times.
- There is one of those "let's pretend we're not telling anyone about our million dollar web campaign" kind of marketing campaign going on for the next Batman movie.

Updates On Entries in the Ill-Fated Webcomic Directory Project?
Submitted by Xaviar Xerexes on July 24, 2007 - 14:31
I built a "library" of webcomics and creators back in the fall of 2005 which I put into beta before realizing it was too much editorial work to deal with and the same information could be better provided through the community edited webcomic wiki - COMIXPEDIA.
Nevertheless looking back on the assortment of names collected (some from me, some sent in from you) I wonder if anyone has any significant updates on these creators 18 months later. Maybe we should interview some of them?

- She's ending her sabbatical early to return as the Editor of GirlAMatic this Friday, July 13th.
- She is ending her webcomic series, Arcana Jayne.

INTERVIEWS
- Wizard interviews Scott Sava, creator of The Dreamland Chronicles. Sava put out an ambiguous press release recently stating that he had reached the one million reader mark. This interview touches on that and although the answer is still slightly ambiguous it appears that Sava has about 6000-8000 daily readers of his webcomic.
AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 BLOGS
- Another Time.com blogger notes Chris Onstad's Achewood, this time using it a as hook to talk about how webcomics may do to newspaper comics the same thing Craig's List is doing to newspaper classified ads. (hint: destroying them...)
- FLEEN rounds up news from Owen Dunn's YDK, Andy Bell's The Creatures in my Head and Ryan Smith's Funny Farm.

- Endurance cartoonist and world traveler Ryan Estrada posts the first video update from his current expedition.
Friday Afternoon Site News

Thanks to Lisa Jonte for guest blogging this week and welcome to Leigh Dragoon who will be your guest blogger next week. I'll be at a beach next week so my Internet access will be spotty at best. The new server (we moved comixpedia.com yesterday) should be fine but if it acts up you're stuck with it until later in the month! (I don't think they'll actually be any problems though). Also a few comments (maybe 6) got lost in the server transition - my apologies, but I probably won't be able to resurrect those.
Also thanks to current sponsor Speech Bubble Media - this is an adverts service for webcomic sites.

The Top 10 Ways To Impress an Editor
Submitted by L_Jonte on August 14, 2006 - 12:28
When Mr. X. asked me to guest blog I was glad to step up. Seriously, the idea of having a huge captive audience for a week was almost irresistible. But what to write? The answer came to me at once...
For the aspiring (web)comics creator there are articles and advice aplenty on how to make comics. And yet, despite all this well-meaning information, I have often felt that something vital was lacking; something that would convey the real emotions inspired by a job thoroughly done. To correct that, I have compiled the following list. It's full-to-bursting with professional experience and the emotions those episodes stirred within my own black heart. It cannot fail, I am sure, to inspire the right-thinking, would-be comics creator on to dazzling new heights of personal achievement.
