A freewheeling discussion about the wide world of webcomics with Eric Burns, Wednesday White, Phil Kahn, Giland Pellaeon, Bob Stevenson, Ping Teo, Daku, Karl Kuras, Doctor Setebos and William G, moderated by Xaviar Xerexes.

You may have noticed that in 2005, the "webcomics blogosphere" took off like never before. There were almost as many people writing about webcomics as making them (okay not really, but there were a whole lot more blog posts about webcomics this year.) We gathered together several popular bloggers for an online roundtable discussion on webcomics here at the tail end of 2005.

We talked about webcomics and creators, art and commerce and of course, webcomics drama. Plus some predictions for the year ahead.

Jack Thompson Tries to Enlist Seattle Police Dept to Shut Down Penny Arcade

You know this Jack Thompson guy sures likes to threaten people who disagree with him. At this point he's pretty bent about Penny Arcade's response to his "modest proposal" for a violent videogame. To the point of calling on the Seattle police department to shut down Penny Arcade.

If it wasn't so laughably inept, this kind of over-the-top flinging of unjustified-lawsuit-poop could interest folks like this or this who tend to see the flinging of lawsuit-poop as counterproductive to that little First Amendment thing most sane citizens still cherish.

Penny Arcade Versus Video Game Critic

A perfect storm of webcomic, news story and real life on Penny Arcade today.

A video game critic recently offered to give 10,000 to charity if a game company made a game based on his proposal (as best as we can decipher, his proposal involved a player killing the owner of a video game company). Gabe of PA emailed the critic and mentioned how much money PA had already raised for charity and apparently the critic emailed and phoned Gabe a couple of times in response.

It's like Penny Arcade is turning into the Daily Show or something - today's edition is about the phone call.

The webcomic telethon for Katrina starts next week - talk to Brad Guigar if you want to help out. In the meantime if you can give, send money to the Red Cross, clothes to the Salvation Army and volunteer your time if you can.

In webcomics news, a friendly scuffle of sorts has broken out between DrunkDuck and Comic Genesis. The battlegrounds are threads at the Comic Genesis forum and the DrunkDuck forum.

Adam Burke is back and he has a Webcomicsnation website: The Splendid Everlasting. Burke is already the creator of two great webcomics: Diabolica and the grimbles.

Digital Strips talks to Gabe and Tycho of Penny Arcade.

So here's the thing. I like porn.

I don't talk a lot about liking porn, because you're not supposed to come right out and say it. "Man, what a beautiful morning," you never say. "I think I'll have a cup of tea, and maybe go down to the market, and when I get back I'm going to enjoy the bounties of porn that are my birthright as an internet consumer." People would look at you funny if you did, and your boss would stop letting you have complimentary coffee and donuts in the morning.

But I do like it. And most of you probably do too. We might not be cheerful about it - we might not march into gas stations with our head held high, grabbing the latest magazines off the rack and marching right up to the gas station attendant to make our purchases (that might be the one situation in life where you are that concerned about what a gas station attendant thinks of you) - but we do like it.

Which leads us inexorably to porn comics, which I don't often talk about either.

I really think John Allison ought to take some pre-order money on his card project rather than cancel it. Maybe this is an investment opportunity! It'd be a shame for this idea (and the SGR art) never to see the light of day...

Tom Spurgeon links to an article on Fanboy Radio (which is aired locally in Dallas TX as well as the 'nets).

Does anyone else see a little irony in getting a webcomic tattoo? These are pretty cool tats though - (I assume they're all real) especially the Clango one and the White Ninja one.

And don't forget to check out a few of the webcomics on Comixpedia's little ol' toplist. These webcomics are actually doing me a huge favor as I needed to better understand how this script works for a super-duper secret project I'm working on.

Sabertooth Games and Penny Arcade Partner for Card Game

Sabertooth Games announced that they were partnering with Penny Arcade to create a "Universal Fighting System (UFS)" game based entirely on characters from Penny Arcade. The card set is designed and illustrated by Gabe and Tycho and has everything from the "Divx" to Tycho's "Really Big Word".

In other card news, I'm not sure if John Allison has mentioned a date for the release of his Scary Go Round card deck but I definitely want one.

the "blurb"

Some comics like to put their blog on the front page and have the user click to another to see a comic (ie, PA, CAD). Where as others hide their blog under the web comic (ie, radioactive panda, Joe and monkey).
Are their any real advantages to putting the blog first, do more people actually read it that way?
