We're heading into the home stretch Blind Date II participants! Email me those finished comics by the end of this Sunday, February 25th! The list of creators still yet to report on their "blind date" after the jump (nudge nudge, know what I mean?):

Blind Date II Pairings

Okay after a random drawing of names from a hat - here's your Blind Date II pairings. (Click read more to find out the pairings)

The rules are simple: the two of you brainstorm out and create a comic in the spirit of Valentines Day. Define "spirit of" however you want (we're not going to be as strict as the WCCA is with the Romantic Comics category).

We will start posting submissions on Valentines Day (February 14th) on a first-in, first-up basis and keep posting them as they come in through the month of February. I'd prefer to post the comics at frightnight.org to prevent future link-rot, but I can link to something posted elsewhere too. Either way email me at xerexes AT comixpedia DOT com with the essential information. The absolute deadline for turning in Blind Date II comics will be February 25th.

Also try and link up with your partner early next week - if you have trouble getting connected or someone quits talk to me next week and we'll try to sort something else out for you.

Blind Date II: Electric Boogaloo

It's been too long since 2004's Blind Date so let's do it again this year. We had some discussion over format for it and it was divided so let's do the original format again (I'll use the Border Walker idea for another event later this year). I've posted the archives of Blind Date 2004 at Frightnight.org if you want to check out the first edition.

The format is simple - by signing up you agree to work on a comic with a randomly selected partner (hence the "blind date" part ). The finished comic gets posted at Blind Date II during the week of February 19th.

You can sign-up for Blind Date II starting now through January 26th. Either email me at xerexes At comixpedia Dot coM or post a reply to this post. Include your name, your comic and whether you are an artist, writer or artist/writer (the only exception to the randomness will be that we will make sure not to pair up writer-writer or artist-artist).

We'll pair up partners and send out pairings around January 28th.

We'll being posting finished webcomics for the event the week of February 19th.

Please ask questions here as well so everyone can see the answers.

End of 2006 Coming Soon

December is traditionally a "year in review" kind of issue at Comixpedia and that's the goal this time around. As we get closer to the end of 2006 it's revealing to look at what folks were writing about webcomics at the end of 2005: The 2005 Webcomics Roundtable.

For the last two years we've also ran a special "25 People Of Webcomics" list article. Here's a link to the 2005 POW List article. Who do you think should be on this year's list? Post a comment with your nominations.

PhilCon

PhilCon is a science fiction con with plenty of comics (and LEGO!) action.

Here's the "comics" track of events:

  • Sat 12:00 PM in Parlor B—Graphic Tales: Comics, Graphic Novels, and SF (106)

    Since the 1930?s, with the debut of Buck Rogers, Flash Gordon, and a certain strange visitor from another planet, comics and SF have been intertwined. Characters like Batman, Iron Man, Green Lantern, and the X-Men all contain heavy science fiction influences. And titles like The New Gods, The Eternals, and The Legion of Super Heroes (which took place in the 30th century!) are basically serialized space operas. So why does it seem like so many fans of either genre don?t seem to see any similarity? Our panelists will look at comics from an SF perspective.

IJD Episode 3 to be Filmed at UberCon

I'm Just Drinking: The Podcast, Episode 3 will be shot on the scene at UberCon VIII (Episode 2 is currently live). UberCon is a gaming convention with a growing Webcomics presence in Secaucus, NJ. The Con itself will be held over the weekend of October 20th-22nd.

Drunk DuckI started a thread to discuss the Platinum-Drunk Duck deal here - I added links to other discussions in the comments if you're interested in reading more about it.

Aaron MacGruder AWOL from Boondocks return. Or so the Washington Post reports. The Comics Reporter notes that the Dallas Morning News also has a good story on this subject.

The Comic Reporter also points to a deal between McClatchy-Tribune and PopMatters.com to carry PopMatters.com stories on McClatchy's MCT Campus wire service for college and highschool newspapers. PopMatters.com was founded in 1999 by Sarah Zupko and also carries several webcomics on its site.

Interviews

Jon RosenbergWizard interviewed Jon Rosenberg (creator of Goats) yesterday. I just want to highlight this part because I think Jon's answer makes a lot of sense:

What professional title do you prefer: webcomicker, webcomics artist, creator or what's the standard these days? Or is there one?

ROSENBERG: When people ask me what I do, I tell them I draw comics. Titles are a pretty silly thing, I don't know if there is a standard but I'm sure it is a topic of heated debate on some message board somewhere.

The people who concern themselves with those sorts of things, I find, would do better to focus on their comics.

Plugs and Reviews

I missed it but Mitch Clem is updating NN2S again. Huh-zah!

Over at CBR, Meaghan Quinn plugs the new webcomic from Petie Shumate, Girl/Robot. G/R is kind of a one-note affair (girl says/does something, robot takes it literally, hijinks/disaster ensues) but so far Shumate is consistently cracking me up with it. I'd give it a try if you haven't already.

Everything ElseI'm Just Drinking

Gilead's got a post on Phil Kahn's I'm Just Drinking vidcast - webcomics and alcohol... who'd thunk it? I watched part of it last night - not bad and Phil does a decent job of actually demonstrating how to make the drinks which is good since that's probably the key part of the show. :)

Howdy. I'm Just Drinking has been up for a little bit now, one month to be exact. It's been going great, got a lot of active people and a lot of recipes brought in. Many of which rock especially hard. But something's felt missing around here. Something fun and interesting to keep everyone coming back. Then it hit me:
