Ryan Armand

Thanks Pear-Pear Readers!

After four weeks of successfully making time to update Pear-Pear on the weekends, it's more than a little gratifying to see our site stats on the rise this month.

Pear-Pear drew over a thousand unique visitors (1240) for the first time since January. Where does this traffic come from? We like to think in part from the product, but we know its mostly because of others linking and blogging on our behalf.

A Big Plus For Minus: Creator Ryan Armand Gets An Eisner Nomination

This year's nominations for the Best Digital Comic category of the Eisner awards is a strong group with a mix of styles and genres. Ryan Armand is a first time Eisner nominee and he got the nod for his webcomic Minus. Minus is a wonderful tale of a slightly mischievous girl named Minus and it features Armand's beautiful dream-like artwork.

Congratulations on the Eisner nomination. How does it feel to get this kind of recognition?

Thanks. It feels pretty good, I think? I don't think I've really wrapped my head around it just yet.

Go Check Out Eisner-Nominated Minus

Of the Eisner nominees this year for Best Digital Comic the one (I am embarrassed to admit) I hadn't gotten to reading yet was Minus by Ryan Armand. The first impression I had of reading it was how much it reminded me of Kazu Kibuish's Copper. Probably that was because of the formatting, the wonderful color scheme (although Minus is subdued compared to Copper, relying on more faded tones) and the similar viewpoint of a young person in a world more magical then our own. Minus is a bit more impish than Copper though. I think I really liked this one with Minus playing Cupid, this one waiting to play baseball with an asteroid, this one with bathtub mermaids, and this one with the littlest perrito.

Minus represents webcomics extremely well. It's a great read.
