- Webware profiles Zuda. (Not much "new" in this piece but if you've missed the recent hype about it's launch today...)
Justify My Hype
- Check out the wordless comic Washed Ashore by Kid Nemo. Cute.
- Also been meaning to plug the students n' sorcery webcomic AEther. Good stuff - check it out.
- In your mind's browser... clear your cache. Funny bit from The Joy Of Tech.
- Wonderella usually cracks me up but this one goes out of its way to go one more unexpected left turn to hilarity...

Tastefully Done 2008 - At It Again
Submitted by moovok on October 21, 2007 - 12:59
Last year Tastefully Done showed the world what it would be like if their favourite webcomic characters bared all in aid of Cancer Research. This year the tables have turned and webcomic artists have bared all in aid of Cancer Research.
With the talents of Kristofer Straub, James Turner, Jodie Azhar, Digital Strips Team, Ben Stirling, Fred Grisolm, Whitney Robinson, Ryan Estrada, Chris Thomas & James Walker, Jon Scrivens, Meghan Murphy, Jared von Hindman and cover by Corey Marie Parkhill baring all for a great cause. Webcomic artists at their finest, with their clothes off, is hopefully gonna be an utterly delightful success like last year.
For the price of $15 and through the lulu.com website, Tastefully Done warns you to bare witness to the outstanding artwork that can only be contained in one calendar, we give you Tastefully Done 2008!
Monday's Starting To Happen

COMIXTALK
- Features article update: Tim Broderick begins a new series of articles on taking your comic to a traditional publisher -- an option every comics creator should consider. I also catch up with what's going on now with five folks who appeared in the pages of ComixTalk in a previous October issues: Jon Morris; Jamie Robertson; Bill Roundy; Thomas K. Dye; and Lee Adam Herold.
- I'll have details on the winners of the Blade DVD giveaway tonight (entries closed this past Friday at midnight)
COMICS JOURNALISM
- This is interesting to me at least: Imaginova Corp., a digital media company that manages a network of several science and technology-focused Web sites, has acquired Newsarama.com, a news and community site geared for comic book fans. The company’s network of sites includes Space.com, LiveScience.com and Aviation.com. Though the new acquisition’s editorial is not science based, Imaginova CEO and president Dan Stone said that the site reaches a similar audience. (h/t Dirk Deppey)
BUSINESS
- More on Zuda from Todd Allen.
- Mike Lynch tells you what to do after you've sold a comic to a magazine.
INTERVIEWS
AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 BLOGS
- Digital Strips reviews White Ninja.
- August Pollak has a new book of comics out: Junk in the Toaster will debut at this weekend's SPX.
- Tom Spurgeon (Comics Reporter) writes up his mixed feelings towards webcomics. Tom doesn't cover webcomics as much as he should which is a shame because he's a good, even-handed observor. More coverage of the digital screen from him will be good. As to the points he's making in his essay I've heard them all before and for the most part they're hardly worth making let alone taking the trouble to take apart. (Someday I will try to write a more coherent where we've been and where we're going type of essay though that may help serve as sort of an insta-rebuttal to some of the sillier memes of criticism of "webcomics".)
- Mike Hawthorne puts his comic Hysteria online.

Life's A Bluff Returns....
Submitted by Lifesabluff on October 1, 2007 - 10:02
Life's A Bluff returns today with Ryan Estrada. Every M-W-F you can count on a brand new comic. In fact, today I make this pledge; Should we miss an update at any time this next year (expires Oct 1, 2008) I will shave my head.

The spinoff strip Laak & Loaded starts Friday. Don't miss it!
Interview with Phil Laak: This LaB 'Random Questions' interview first appeared in the debut issue of Under The Gun DVD Magazine this year during the World Series of Poker. Some questions here have not yet been seen by the public. Be sure to check it out, it is a great read.
Photoshop Contest: Photoshop this picture of the Unabomber and you could win yourself a deck of Copag playing cards. ($20 value) - Details here.
The Unofficial Official Comic of Poker is back! And better than ever!

MILESTONES
- Howard Tayler celebrates 3 years of full-time comics creatin'
- Fred Grisolm suspends work on his webcomic Hate Song... again!
INTERVIEWS
- Eh it's from last month, but I forgot to link to it. A pretty entertaining if short interview with Warren Ellis, around the release of his Black Summer comic from Avatar. For all of the scattershot musing and ideas Ellis blasts across cyberspace every FREAKIN' day I wish he could channel a little bit of it into a serialized webcomic. (Is Freak Angels ever going to...well get its freak on?)
REVIEWS
- Jack Carter reviews Boxcar Astronaut by Marc Lapierre and Jeff Carter and Kidnapped By Gnomes by Kathy Peterson. I've read and heartily recommend Boxcar Astronaut - which is almost Calvin & Hobbes-esque in its ability to capture innocent wonder at the world.
JUSTIFY MY HYPE
- Someone pointed out Idiot Comics on a thread yesterday. It is largely good although as much funny-wha?! as funny-ha-ha... Definitely worth checking out.
Ryan Estrada: International Man of Guest Comics
Submitted by Xaviar Xerexes on September 18, 2007 - 09:29
Five karma points for every link to a guest comic by Ryan Estrada from this week (really yesterday I think is when the Estrada-bomb was unleashed). There are a lot (so get reading)...
FLEEN has a pretty good list of where to find the Estradamania (and has a bit more today in this post plus some MOCCA Webcomic Exhibit Reception reportage as well).
And just to make it easier Ryan is in the process of posting all of the guest comics he did at his own website.
Ryan Estrada signs on as artist of Life's A Bluff!
Submitted by Lifesabluff on September 14, 2007 - 04:37
Ryan Estrada has joined the Life's A Bluff team and will help usher in a new era for both webcomics and poker. Ryan is a well known artist in the industry and has ongoing projects all over the Internet. See ryanestrada.com for some of his work. It is both an honor and a privilege to be able to work with him and bring quality and character back to LaB.
