I'm kind of mind-boggled by this. A whole lecture series featuring webtoonists? That's... cool. Three of the lectures have already passed by but you c an still catch Fred Gallagher who will visit on April 1st.
The Readers Interview Explodingdog.com's Sam Brown
You may remember that Comixpedia called for questions for Sam Brown late last year. Well, Sam recently came through with the answers. The slightly eccentric but wildly popular creative force behind explodingdog.com has been marvelling the Internet droves with his art, and producing his work through a very interesting relationship with his audience – readers submit titles, and he draws pictures to fit them.
In this reader-led interview, he offers creative sequential words to illustrate our own interrogative titles. Read on, and don’t worry – no dogs are harmed in the course of the interview, even if one may explode just a little.

We've sent off the questions for our latest community interview with Joey Manley, the publisher of Modern Tales. We should have the answers to post sometime next month.

ONE QUESTION PER COMMENT, PLEASE.
If you see another question you think is interesting, moderate it up. If you see something not so useful, moderate it down. We'll take questions for two weeks, until October 17th. We'll send the top ten questions to Sam to answer.

Why should you head to San Diego for Comicon this month (July 17-20th)? Because there will be a huge number of great creators there to meet, including:
R Stevens and the Dumbrella Gang ("i'll be there with a bunch of other cartoonists [Sam Brown, Jeff Rowland, John Allison, R Stevens, Jon Rosenberg and Andrew Bell] we have a double endcap over near the bayside cafe & small press area. (#1148)")
Clint Hollingsworth of Wandering Ones will be at the Keenspot. So will Maritza Campos of CRFH!!!
Scott R. Kurtz and Frank Cho (sharing a booth somewhere near the Image booth)
At the GirlAMatic.com/RumbleGirls.com table will be Spike, Jason Thompson, Shaenon Garrity and Lea.
And lots more info in a helpful Comicon thread here.

A short but glowing mention of Sam Brown's Exploding Dog in this NY Times article.
To Tablet or not to Tablet?

I suspect many, if not most, webtoonists draw with offline tools (pen, brush, paper, etc) and use a trusty scanner to upload their creation to digital form.
The tablet allows, however, for the direct creation of digital art and with their increasingly (well, relatively) affordable prices, it is an option that anyone creating webcomics should investigate. A good place to start is a guide to using a tablet put together by Sam Brown.
