Ellsmere covers.

Front and back covers for The War at Ellsmere. Nothing with this book came easy, and I think I drew and redrew and composed and recomposed this cover about a billion times (not an exaggeration). I was about ready to shoot myself when this particular composition popped into my head, and was fortunate enough to get the bloody thing down on paper before it took off. Ye gods, was this thing hard.

Fun fact: the plaid on the skirts was achieved by scanning in a plaid skirt of my own. :D
In addition to being longer than Zombies Calling, this book format will also be larger. I think the size will be 6 by 9 inches. I was a little freaked about that since the format changed so late in the game, but I think it's the right decision, considering the tone of the book. That's the nice thing about working with a small publisher: they are nimble and can make decisions based on the needs of each book, rather than having a giant rigid format in which all things must be wedged.

Alright, I have a couple more little things to finish, and then hand them in and then done, gah, DONE! I'm pleased I had the time to go above and beyond for this book, but ... my wrist hurts, mommy! (Oh yeah, and there was a cool interview with me at Publisher's Weekly, which was very cool and I have to pimp again because it was cool. Jennifer said nice things about me, which makes me happy.)
