TWCL "unkind" to WCN comics

I don't know what the problem is between The Webcomic List's updating system and Webcomics Nation comics, but for some reason WCN comics are always listed as "could not connect to site". Even those that are listed as "normal" don't show current updates. And it happens again, and again, and again. AND it only seems to happen to WCN comics. Other Modern Tales family of sites (Graphic Smash, GirlaMatic, Serializer) seem immune to the "glitch".

Bitters Past Debuts and Johnny Saturn returns to Graphic Smash

Two more of Graphic Smash’s new fall comic debut today. Johnny Saturn and Bitters Past

Hi! I'm a new artist at GirlAMatic and to the community!

Hello,

My name is Michelle Mauk, and I've just been recently added to the new lineup at GirlAMatic! I'm brand new to the community, and to the webcomic world, so I'm just introducing myself and my work. My comic is called Voyage Moyen, it's a fantasy story that revolves around a journey in a world that exists somewhere between Life and Death... so it'll cover a whole spectrum of things. I'm actually really thrilled to be posting alongside all the artists on the site, because they're just so good!

Lea Hernandez suffers house fire, needs help.

This is a repost of a post I did at Websnark, and it copies some information that Gail Simone's sent out and about. In addition to the address given below, several sites (including Websnark) have paypal buttons or links up to help out.

Lea Hernandez, author and artist of the epic and wonderful Rumble Girls books, a former Transmetropolitan artist, as well as the former editor of Girlamatic, has suffered a terrible house fire. Her family is safe, though they lost some of their pets (two dogs and four cats). They have also lost an incredible number of the necessities of life and of Lea's business. They have lost most of their clothes. They have lost shelter. They have lost almost all of their media collection. They do not yet know how much of Lea's original art is gone.

New Line-up at GirlAMatic!

The harvest is in and GirlAMatic has come away with a bountiful bushel of talent! We are celebrating the debut of no less than SEVEN shiny new series and the return of TWO old favorites!Â

The New Lineup at the New Modern Tales

Shaenon K. Garrity

So Eric Burns has a handy post up detailing some thoughts on the New Fall Season at Modern Tales which marks new editor Shaenon K. Garrity's debut line-up. Here's the list of the new comics Eric hits on in his post:

So a couple of questions to discuss: what about the new line-up? does it change the "brand" of Moderntales.com? And what does it mean to creators and/or readers to be part of a site like this? As we head into the latter part of 2006 just exactly what are the benefits of such an umbrella site?

UPDATE: Related collective-type news; the Warren Ellis-led Rocket Pirates now looks to debut in September.

Welcome Back!

I just wanted to take a moment and publicly welcome Layla Lawlor and Diana McQueen back to GirlAMatic!Â

Layla, returns with her SciFi/Intrigue series Kismet: Hunter's Moon.

The Top 10 Ways To Impress an Editor

When Mr. X. asked me to guest blog I was glad to step up. Seriously, the idea of having a huge captive audience for a week was almost irresistible. But what to write? The answer came to me at once...

For the aspiring (web)comics creator there are articles and advice aplenty on how to make comics. And yet, despite all this well-meaning information, I have often felt that something vital was lacking; something that would convey the real emotions inspired by a job thoroughly done. To correct that, I have compiled the following list. It's full-to-bursting with professional experience and the emotions those episodes stirred within my own black heart. It cannot fail, I am sure, to inspire the right-thinking, would-be comics creator on to dazzling new heights of personal achievement.

Welcome This Week's Guest Blogger - Lisa Jonte

This week Lisa Jonte, the editor of Girlamatic.com will be joining us as guest blogger. I didn't set out to recruit the editors of every Modern Tales site to be a guest blogger this summer, but I'm not complaining that Lisa is the second editor to agree to hang out with Comixpedia for a week (Tim Demeter, last week's guest blogger, is the new Graphic Smash editor)!

Lisa is also the creator of the series Arcana Jayne at Girlamatic.

Modern Tales Open to Submissions

This is Shaenon Garrity, the new editor of Modern Tales. As you can see if you hop over to moderntales.com, MT now has a spiffy new site design and a charming new editor. It needs only one thing to achieve perfection: an amazing new lineup of top-notch webcomics.

That’s what I’m working on now. Soon I’ll announce the first wave of new comics that will be appearing in the Modern Tales Strip Lounge. It’s an impressive roster. At the same time, I’m looking for great comics to add to the Strip Lounge (i.e., the free comics) and the V.I.P. Room (the subscription comics) in the months to come.
