Comics Legends & Lore

Both my brother and I have been lifelong readers of comics (I started when they where $ 0.05). Back in the 80's we had a comic book store in Lynn, MA called Comics, Legends & Lore. Circumstances demanded that we sell the store (angry spouse). Recently we've been told to clear the remaining comics out of his house (upset spouse).

I am a photographer selling my works on the web. I've been re-reading the books, slowly incorporating them into my store front. It's been an incredible trip down memory lane, and its just begun. I've been attempting to recontact old customers (one became a writer with Marvel). We used to hold open houses with members of the industry. One is now a member of the faculty of the only college in the US with a major in the Comic Book Field.

I'm heading to the Comic Convention in New York City next week. Just as a paying customer. Too early in the process to get back to the paying vender routine- we had a traveling show when we were store owners.

The industry has changed in 25 plus years. I do feel its vibrant - the web makes the audience truly international. When I started my website several years ago I wanted to explore the possibility of web books - providing access for novice authors. It never happened. Now, rediscovering the world of Comics again, the idea has developed traction.

I started a blog last November. Had great intentions - was pretty regular about posting. Thanksgiving came, my brother started delivering the Comic collection to my house. I hadn't used a scanner since I gave up large format photography for digital. I went out and bought Overstreet guides, then had to learn how to grade comics.

I now am comfortable enough to feel I have a routine, a workflow. Also more diligent about exercise, diet and supplements. As we get older hand eye coordination and the process of learning new tasks becomes problematic. But boy, when things start clicking.......

There are actually a handful

There are actually a handful of colleges with comics degrees, by the way. SCAD and MCAD being the two most prestigious ones.
Multiplex is a twice weekly humor comic about the staff of the Multiplex 10 Cinemas and the movies that play there.

Aren't articles tagged with

Aren't articles tagged with "new blogger" supposed to be examples of how you'd potentially write for Comixpedia? Seemed like a self-advertisement to this reader (Woah. 3rd person referal to myself there... I'm apparently feeling important today).

but...

interesting photos. The rowing ones show your interest, but are the weakest visually. As for the others, for as much subject matter as they contain, I actually find many very balanced and compositionally rich. Nice job.

Third person self reference is awesome.

This reader does it regularly. I am thinking of adopting the royal "we" as well.

Colleges with Comics degrees VS schools devoted to topic

I had come across the Center for Cartoon Studies in Vermont while trying to track down an artist I knew from the 70's. He's now a member of the faculty (actualy a founder). The whole purpose of the school is the comic industry. I don't know much about the program, but to these old eyes some of the people involved have a wealth of experience in the industry. The mix, creative, financial and managerial of the faculty backgrounds was what caught my eye. Again, I have no personal knowledge. Looks like a new school. I was just adding it to my radar screen.
