This was by far the most memorable moment of the 2007 SPX -- Nicholas Gurewitch presenting the Ignatz award to (presumably) Chris Onstad for Achewood. After Nick announced the award, a character in an ape costume came to the front of the auditorium and pantomimed while Nick translated. The simean conveyed through Nick that he was thrilled from the top of his buttocks to be receiving the award.

I've also heard it theorized that the ape was actually a mutual friend of Gurewitch and Onstad in disguise. (Well, I suppose the "in disguise" part could be inferred.)

Joe! Hey thanks for the post - I wish I'd known you were there this year - it would have been cool to meet in person finally.
I added the image - it's still set for me to review images before they show up on the site...
