  1. Does something like this really warrant a news post? I would consider the first news post about the Keenspot Newsbox controversy newsworthy, but this is veering to the tabloid side of journalism.

  2. I might have been the first to complain about Comixpedia veering towards the tabloid side of things, but this is a public forum with a bunch of important webcomics people arguing. I think stuff like personal LiveJournals or blogs should be off-limits, but not a high-profile announcement thread like this.

  3. I’m not sure why this should be considered “tabloid”-y – if you really feel that way I’d be interested in what about the post led you to choose that word.

Kurtz wrote what he called a rant, but was actually a pretty level-headed essay that veered through not just his thoughts on the newsbox thing but business issues, Keenspot, etc. I’m not saying I agree with what he said or not but it was a lot more than just a tossed off forum post.

We cover webcomics – Kurtz is a big personality in webcomics. I’m not saying we’d cover any little thing Kurtz does but when he does something newsworthy more often than not I’m inclined to note it here.

  4. I’d say Kurtz’s description of it as a ‘rant’ was more accurate. As much of it was devoted to personal attacks as it was to the actual controversy.

It’s a news item in the same way 50 Cent’s feud is a news item. I’m sure some people are interested, I’m just not sure that it deserves to be posted right above Neil Gaiman’s charity auction.

It doesn’t help that there’s a direct link to page 32 of the thread, by which time Bobby Crosby is talking about Jeb Bush and the Florida election.

  5. Good lord… I was aware of the drama in general, but didn’t see this rant until today. He actually sounded vaguely supportive of Keenspot in his first post in that thread, but it looks like his tendency to be two-faced hasn’t gone away.

Of all the things that spawned from this incident, I can’t fucking believe Kurtz found a way to be so extensively critical of Darren’s completely reasonable explanation. This is easily his worst, most contrived anti-Keenspot rant ever.
