Hey folks-
I'm looking for a partner in a project I'm calling Socratic Comics.
The idea behind it is to use comics to intelligently debate the huge questions, most notably the existence or nonexistence of God and the nature of His (or her or its) being (if he or she or it exists). The vision is a bunch of web comic writers and artists discussing the truly important things in life through the use of comics. Because let’s face it, no matter what you believe, it's the most important conceivable decision you will ever make.
The goal right now is to find a contributor who believes in the project as much as I do and who has very opposing beliefs to my own. I am a Christian. I’m looking for an atheist (probably).
Hopefully our biases will balance one another out. People would submit comics to me and to this other person and we would have to both agree to post them before they go up.
Primarily we'd be screening for the use of respect. No matter what your belief, you must respect the beliefs of others. You don’t have to share them but you must respect them. We’d also be screening for general quality and in particular for being on topic. I plan to have things set up very structured so that we aren’t going off on wild tangents.
Why comics? Why not just a forum of some kind?
There are a couple reasons for that. The first is simply because to my knowledge it hasn’t been done. There are plenty of forums for this stuff already. Putting it in comic form makes it more accessible to readers who normally wouldn’t go near it. Also, a comic takes longer to make than a hastily worded forum post. It puts more pressure on the writer to really think through what he or she is trying to say.
And hopefully stop those two or three people on every forum who end up just insulting all the rest.
Additionally, this future partner o' mine should be ready and willing to contribute on a semi-regular basis. I'll be doing the same. Then at least the project won't stagnate.
If you're interested at all, please let me know! There are a number of things that are not yet set in stone so if you have ideas please feel free to throw them at me-

And yes... I realize how much this sounds like an online dating intro... sorry about that...
Hmmm
Interesting concept. Could be worth the time and effort, but it all depends on how you envision the thing.
Myself, i'm not per se an atheist, i rather take religious concepts and dogma as missinterpreted philosophical advices/guidelines given by more-or-less enlightened figures.
If you want , contact me at ulfednar@gmail.com and we'll see where this thing takes us.
Tell me more...
I'm interested depending on how you want to go about this. I've been dipping into philosophy alot more and would like a neutral arena to discuss these things. email me at coderedcartoonist@gmail.com.

You might contact the creator of Jesus and Mo about this:

That's a guy who is coming at it from the atheist/rationalist perspective and considers it important enough to write comics about.

I'd agree with Willie. A belief (or a lack of belief) in a God is not a decision at all, let alone a "most important conceivable" decision.
You either believe or you don't. If you do, you can decide to follow a particular religion, a way of worshipping that God, but not whether you believe in the God to begin with. If you don't, well, there isn't even that much of a decision to make.

Hm. I suppose I qualify in that I'm an atheist (probably) and believe in respecting other people's beliefs and whatnot. However, I can't say that I can (so far, from what you've said) muster a lot of immediate enthusiasm for the subject.
Please don't take this the wrong way, but I think that for a lot of atheists, belief in the existence of God isn't really 'the most important conceivable decision you'll ever make.' In fact, from the atheists point of view, believing or not is really not important, unless you're the militant type and think that non-atheists are stupid/dangerous and atheists are inherently superior. And if you hook up with someone like that, the whole 'respect' thing might not be so easy, ya know?
Hope I'm making some sense. Will check back. Let's talk.
