Newcomers That Didn't Get Nominated
Submitted by Xaviar Xerexes on January 27, 2007 - 10:45
I still don't know whether the WCCA Best Newcomer award is for new comic or for new person(s) but either way with all of the comics coming out in 2006 I'm sure it was tough to get a nomination this time (link to nominations here). Let's post some suggestions for comics that started in 2006 that you're surprised didn't get a nomination.
I'll start with Home On The Strange which is pretty consistently funny and does a good job of tackling messy romantic geek life. I'm not saying HOTS was robbed but I wouldn't have been shocked if it had been nominated either.
What else have you(s) got?

I nominated Magnolia Pearl

I nominated Magnolia Pearl for Twist:Ending (rude, crude and frequently very funnY) and Jessica McLeod who seems quiet adept at churning out freakishly cute comics!
And BTW I was a bit chuffed and humbled to get a third nom in the Superhero Category... third time lucky maybe?

One of my picks for Outstanding Newcomer was Gravity. I don't think it's very well known at all so I'm not surprised it didn't make the final nominations, but I thought it had a strong start and got even more interesting in succeeding chapters.

Neither did Platinum Studios' Cowboys & Aliens now that I think about it.

On second thought, let's not go to Comixpedia. It is a silly place.

Now that you mention it...heeey yeah. O.o
I think there are other comics that I wish would get nominated but I'm not surprised that it didn't either. (The Chelation Kid being one of them.) I know they don't exactly have the readership to probably get them a nomination.

That was a good recommendation

The Chelation Kid is pretty interesting - glad you plugged that here.

I love Erfworld so far but it barely kicked off in terms of what got posted in 2006.
I can't even tell if the 2 strips of MAWGAG were posted in 2006 - even so how do you nominate something based on 2 strips?
If someone would tell me whether this award was for new comic or new person it'd be easier to understand. Assuming its new comic nominating Klassic Komix Klub would have been interesting. No question it should qualify - I just wonder what Johnny Ryan would have made of being nominated for a WCCA...

Oh yeah - got thrown off by the MT archiving system (just two entries in the dropdown) - I see there's actually a lot there.
Are you trying to imply that a hillbilly incest puke fetish webcomic would be a bad thing?

Thanks, Grant!
I don't think anything I nominated for any category was picked... once again in the minority (no Dicebox!).
I don't remember my newcomer nominations.

I nominated Things Change or newcomer. Sadly no one nominated me for either of my new comics. :(
