Cosplaying as your own character: Lame or Not Lame?
Submitted by Ninja-bot on October 25, 2007 - 10:13
I've left my costume until the last minute and'm now left with the option of modding my clothing to become Ronin, our Ninja-bot character. I'll also need to glue a Starbuck's Mocha-frap cup to my hand.
BTW, Strip 6 of Shuriken Diaries went up this morning. That was a link to it, btw. Click it. It wants to feel your touch.

As lame as a character cosplaying as his own creator.

Again, the caveat being you have to have fans for them to spot you.
I'd be doing it to draw attention to the strip, though. The Black Bastard guy is downright HILARIOUS.

Because "Diary of a Shuriken" makes moderately less sense.

Lame? ... depends

If you're going to a con as a fan, dressed as your own character, and it's not so your fans will spot you and talk to you (and sometimes even if you are) then yes; it's very, very, lame. If you're doing it to draw some attention to your artist table, no problem at all. Funniest thing at one con I went to was to see the guy who draws 'Black Bastard' in full pimp gear.

The chances of that happening are pretty slim at this point, though, if such a thing did happen, I'd commit seppuku on the spot like any self-respecting ninja-bot would.

Well, I think its only lame if you meet someone at the con who in turn is cosplaying as that character, and they did a better job than you.

Probably somehwat lame if you're doing it at a con, but I've done this at least 3 times in my life for Halloween.
