Don't Indulge Drama...

Let me just take this brief moment after reading this comment thread at FLEEN to remind everyone that all posts and comments at ComixTalk should be civil and treat others with respect. We had some drama-filled days here before I began enforcing some minimums on common decency and I have no intention of letting things devolve around here again.

You can thank me later :)

UPDATE: Look the point of this wasn't to pick on FLEEN. It's obvious that FLEEN itself isn't responsible for the intemperate remarks of a commenter and FLEEN (Gary) handled the situation pretty well. The point is that kind of stuff isn't welcome here at ComixTalk and if you make uncivil comments they'll get deleted and you'll get banned.

It's unlikely anyone mistook Fleen as your target.

Re: Don't Indulge Drama...

This message brought to you by the same website that used to post on LJ conflicts between webcartoonists as if it was LATE BREAKING NEWS EVERYONE HAS TO KNOW ABOUT - usually to learn they were "reporting" conflicts that had been resolved weeks earlier and they themselves were doing little more than opening old wounds.

I don't think that's a fair characterization of the past here (even so I think if I recall what you're probably talking about it was off on the staff blog at the time) but regardless it was a long time ago and well before I had to play nanny here to enforce some minimum levels of non-fuckwadery on the site.

Maybe linking to FLEEN in this post sent a mixed message but the reminder of civility stands.

Oh yeah... this place is called ComixTalk now.

I run this place! Tip the piano player on the way out.

Re: Don't Indulge Drama...

A mixed message is a pretty polite way of putting it. It came off as condescending. "Oh, look. The children at Fleen are acting up again - good thing that's never happened here!"

Comixpedia had a past filled with instigating unnecessary drama, from poorly thought out articles to the notorious iMac Front Page graphic. Changing the name of the site doesn't change that, so I think it's a more than fair characterization. This post was unnecessary and unprofessional. There are countless better ways you could have done a post encouraging civility in the comments without pointing at someone else's snafus.

Granted, back then at least there were aticles and not just this, "HAY GUYZ LOOK @ MAH COMIC" Comixtalk has degenerated into.

Maybe I'm the only one but I miss Comixpedia's old magazine format, with actual articles instead of just blogposts.

Re: Don't Indulge Drama...

I preferred the old magazine-style Comixpedia too.

Re: Don't Indulge Drama...

But isn't posting about it sort of indulging it? I mean, had you not mentioned it here, I wouldn't have even heard about it. And it's not really essential webcomics news. Just typical.

It's a fair point and maybe I should have posted the civility reminder without the link.

Still it seemed like a good reminder of what's not acceptable over here.

Sorry if folks were offended.

But without Drama the internet is just a bunch of webpages!
