How to Find the Best Feed to Import Your Outside Blog Posts Into ComixTalk

As I find out tips on how to add different types of feeds I'll add here - please add what you know in the comments below.

Other Tools

RSSpect: If you're blog software doesn't support RSS feeds check out Ryan North's RSSpect (http://www.rsspect.com) with which you can create an RSS feed.

Yahoo Pipes: A cool tool is Yahoo Pipes which can help filter feeds.  Blogger for example doesn't appear to support anything other than a full feed.  So if you want to have a feed for a particular author from a group blog you could run it through Yahoo Pipes.  This page has a very simple explanation on how to this.

When I click the add feed link, it says I'm not authorized to to do that.  Also how do I get the feed for my blogger account so that just the posts tagged "comics" get sent your way?

Grant

i've decided for now to have people send me their feeds so I can make sure it works right.  So - send me your blogger url.

As far as tag/category based filtering on blogger i haven't found anything native to blogger yet to do that (IF anyone does know how please post here!) so I could try running it through my yahoo pipes account and that should do the trick.  You want only the posts tagged "comics" to come here - got it.

Feature Back - Email Me to Request it

Right now I've had some kind of just total failure with that function and I've had to put it on hold.  I'm hopefully going to be able to fix it and get it working again very soon but I have to figure out exactly what's wrong with it first.

Okay it's back and working well but for now I'm going to do it on request only so if you're interested in importing your blog to ComixTalk send me your blog url (and any special instructions as far as authors or tags) and your comixtalk account name and I'll take care of it.

Question

My blog is a combo blog/webcomic.  I'm using Comicpress so the site is split into top part webcomic, and bottom part blog.  Would that sill qualify?

You are part of the Rebel Alliance and a traitor.  TAKE HER AWAY!

Absolutely

Not a problem.  If you want the comics and blog posts to all appear it's easy - just use the full feed.  If you only want the news posts to appear use the feed only for the news category (or category 1 if you haven't set up permalinks).

Either way is okay!

Ugh. I put in my link, but I stupidly forgot to add the "/feed/" at the end.  Now the account says my posting quota has been exceeded.  Any way to fix this?  My link was supposed to be: "http://webcomicoverlook.wordpress.com/feed/"

EDIT: Nevermind.  It's working... I think!

Fixed

I went ahead and fixed that for you.

I fixed the permissions too - now you can edit again your feed after you submit it.

Right now I've got it set to allow only one feed per user account.  I could change that but it seemed like what most people would need.

Thanks for adding your blog feed -

Actually, I'm probably going to need two permissions, one for my comic blog and one for the NCWCCC blog.  I've tried to set up the feeds myself, but get an error message: Sorry, but your posting quota has been exceeded. You are unable to create any new content.

I could set up another ComixTALK account w/ another email address if that would make things easier. Both are livejournal blogs.

Thanks,

Jamie

Could do it either way

Xaviar Xerexes's picture

Could do it either way really.  If we link the NCWCCC blog to your account they'll show up as authored by you on the site.  If that's okay then that's the easiest way to do it.

I don't see a problem with people having more than one feed in, I just didn't think of it.  I'll raise it to 3 - see if it works for you putting in the 2nd feed, ok?

Fine by me.  Thanks!

Thank you!

Ok, hands down this is the single most useful function I've seen added to ComixTalk.  I can't wait to start trying this out when I relaunch a site later this year.

I hope so!

I hope so - I just posted on the front page about it and hopefully I'm explaining it well.

My plan is to make it super-easy to get things into and out of ComixTalk.  I probably should mention that it's already easy to export all of any user's Talk Posts back out of ComixTALK via RSS - a feed is automatically generated for each user.
