Submitted by Alexander Danner on January 24, 2008 - 12:49
Beginning in February, Dan Mazur and I will be co-teaching a pre-college course in comics production at the Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University. This is somewhat short notice, so if you or a high school student you know is interested, the time to sign up is now. The course runs February 16, 2008 – April 5, 2008, on Saturdays, 10:00 am – 1:30 pm. Students in this course will earn 1 college credit. $100.00 plus $40.00 materials fee.
If you’re unsure about the course, and want to get a little preview, we will also be teaching a one-day workshop on February 9, 2008, from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm. Non-credit. $50.00 plus $20.00 materials fee (Includes a pizza lunch).
Course Description: This is an introductory course focusing on the history and production of graphic novels. Major figures and their work are reviewed and studied for inspiration. Students will view the collection of graphic novels in the AIB library. Students learn the basics of producing their own short comic story from beginning to end using various materials and techniques such as pencil, ink and brush washes, nib pen work, watercolor and markers and some computer scanning. Character design, storytelling, and composition are stressed.
