Indie-Friendly Comix Printing

ComiXpress is a new service for independent comix artists that will print books (no minimum orders), act as their online store, then fulfill the order and notify the artist of the sale, so that the only thing the artist needs to worry about is creating their comix. Currently, several PV Comics are listed in the catalog and available for sale.

ComiXpress allows creators the opportunity to print their comics in quantities as low as one single issue for very low prices (you can get started for just over $10). As long as your monthly revenue is over $10, they will send you your money via PayPal. If you make less than $10, ComiXpress will roll the balance over to the next month.

The ComiXpress online store only accepts PayPal as payment, and is not set up for use with credit cards.

(Editor's note: PayPal does accept credit card payment from non PayPal members, so this should not affect general usability)

Wow! The prices are really good. Certainly better than the joke prices Cafepress charges for POD printing.

Will this finally be the motivation I need to get me off my lazy ass and working on my GGC graphic novel? Time will tell.

Re: Indie-Friendly Comix Printing

Well, technically, the quote is still true, as all of their payment is handled through PayPal, but yes, I wasn't aware that PayPal accepted a direct credit card payment from non-members.

Re: Indie-Friendly Comix Printing

I went through a sample order this morning, and the only payment option available was PayPal.

Re: Indie-Friendly Comix Printing

In the interest of full-disclosure, I think it should be noted that ComiXpress is owned and operated by Logan DeAngelis, the publisher of PV Comics, so it should be no surprise that theirs are, thus far, the only comics represented on the ComiXpress catalog. I'm not saying this in any attempt to either drive traffic to *or* away from ComiXpress, but I think it's something that people should be aware of. I think it looks like a good service myself, and having been burned on other POD publishers in the past, I'll be keeping my eye on it for possibly future publication of my own stuff.

"I think it should be noted that ComiXpress is owned and operated by Logan DeAngelis, the publisher of PV Comics"

While Logan is the publisher of PV Comics, and ONE of the partners at comiXpress, there are other people involved - some with no connection to any kind of web based comics at all.

"so it should be no surprise that theirs are, thus far, the only comics represented on the ComiXpress catalog"

James Patrick (Candida Press) has already listed his Crackurz book in the store. This is not a PV Comics title.

We've had a tremendous amount of interest in the the service since it was announced and we have several titles that will be added to the store very soon. (We plan on listing a new title from Golden Goat Studios later today.) It's great to see comics from different countries (eg. UK, Sweden, Germany, Australia, Canada, US) getting their books ready for printing.

My statement was based on the fact that Logan is the only contact listed for the comixpress.com domain, a sure sign of some level of ownership involvement. I don't doubt that there are others involved, I know I wouldn't want to undertake two such projects alone.

"James Patrick (Candida Press) has already listed his Crackurz book in the store. This is not a PV Comics title."

You're right, Crackurz is not technically a PV Comics title. I was confused, I guess by the way the creators (D.J. Coffman and James Patrick) were promoting their OTHER comic ('Lionxor') on the Crackurz.com homepage, which IS listed as a PV Comics title. It appeared to me that both books were PV Comics titles.

For the record, I have ordered a copy of the Latest Book as a sample of the printing quality (something most printers will do for free, by the way). I look forward to checking it out!

Re: Indie-Friendly Comix Printing

I used this service and the quality and speed was AWESOME. It was an efficient transaction (I used my debit card via paypal) and when I got the books I was blown away! The ink just sits right on top of the paper, the blacks are thick, shiny, and awesome. The greys are not pixelated in the slightest (none of the artwork was, it was all completely crisp!! I was shocked because even when my series was published the printing on that sucked and everything had a jagged edge to it even though it was 300 dpi tiffs. These too were 300 dpi tiffs but it looks a million times better). In any case, I'll stop gushing now! I was just so pleased with the printing, still when I think of it I get a gentle smile on my face hehe When/if they can do perfect binding in the future, I'm completely going with them based on their printing quality alone!

And yeah, Logan is a major player in the printing things but it doesn't really have anything to do with pvcomics. He just needed some testers so he might as well test on us! The service is for everyone and anyone and I highly recommend it! And about the one book sample, in my searches unless the printer is huge like brenner printers seem to charge a couple bucks for a sample pack. The only way you'd get a free proof was if you had ordered a large number of books first. Am I wrong? >.>

Great to see Exile from Kiirs in print, Amy, it looks great :) So talented are you at cartooning that I sometimes forget what an awesome designer you are as well.

Actually that's not true. PayPal has added a service that lets you pay via credit card without actually having a PayPal account.

Re: Indie-Friendly Comix Printing

Was that line just edited in by someone? It makes it seem like you HAVE to have Paypal to use it. I thought someone said you could also contact them to send payment in through the mail as well.

Re: Indie-Friendly Comix Printing

Yeah-- the only reason Lionxor has a PV Comics logo on it is because I kinda wanted it that way.... And we were the first to test the system out which works great!

Have no fear though, plenty of other books from SEVERAL indy outlets are in the pipeline I hear and will be listed soon. Believe me, there will be FAR more titles than just comics from PV. We just got lucky enough to use it first.

I also want to point out, to anyone assuming anytying, that PV Comics makes NO money from sales on Comixpress.... well, unless we sell books there-- but it has nothing to do with the PVComics.com site, and its not a service there of at all. It could have easily been that way I imagine----

Anyway, big ups to Logan for actually creating something that HELPS creators, and isnt out to milk em or burn anyone-- or take a sack of cash on go on vacation or something. He's a doer!
