Checkerboard Nightmare Takes on Webcomicsland... Again

Consider this your slow-news-Friday-post: Checkerboard Nightmare today takes aim at Websnark (but also a quick shot at Scott "PVP" Kurtz and Comixpedia).

I love it when Straub does this - it is mean, but it's lovingly mean-spirited. But it's about as insular to webcomics community as humor can get it, isn't it?

Can we even call it mean spirited? I mean, Straub isn't Chex. Chex is Chex. And something of an idiot with entitlement issues. I mean, that's the whole point of the comic, isn't it?

Anyway, I was pretty stoked, I have to admit.

Hell, he even apologizes in the blog below.

Hmmm... Well I think what I mean is that it's insult humor. Ricklesque. Isn't that mean-spirited? Most people actually enjoy being the target of such humor when it's well done. (It's how we all put up with each other through grade school/high school, right?)

Anyhow, I thought the adjective "lovingly" hopefully qualified that I didn't think Straub was trying to be a jerk about it, but maybe I was being too cute in the post.

Now, don't get me wrong, I love Checkerboard Nightmare with all my heart. It's one of the few webcomics I read regularly, but I really have to wonder if this deserves a headline news post to itself. Maybe I'm just still unfamiliar with what Comixpedia is all about, but this seems similar to posting "Today in Peanuts, Lucy pulled the football away before Charlie Brown could kick it."
No offense.

None taken. Webcomics often doesn't have "news" everyday and on especially slow days sometimes I try and post something that is, if not news, at least of interest and potentially capable of provoking a discussion in the thread. Sometimes it works and other times not so much.

Which just goes to show once again that no one should underestimate the power of sending Comixpedia a press release on Thursday night or Friday morning... :)

Re: Checkerboard Nightmare Takes on Webcomicsland... Again

Don't worry, Checkerboard Nightmare turned four years old a few weeks ago, and I'll accept this as my "hey, go look, it turned four" post like Little Gamers got. Unless, you know, I can submit a completely separate news post about that.
