Submitted by John Baird on July 4, 2009 - 19:42
The Create a Comic Project (CCP) is coming to Otakon 2009! Accompanied by webcomic artists Kittyhawk (Sparkling Generation Valkyrie Yuuki) and Erin Ptah (And Shine Heaven Now), the project will be hosting two workshops - "Make a Manga!" - and a panel - "Manga, Literacy, and Children."
Workshop: "Make a Manga!"
Room: Workshop 2
Time 1: Friday, 4 - 6 PM
Time 2: Saturday, 12 - 2 PM (repeat of Friday)
In "Make a Manga!", you'll compete with others for prizes in an Iron Chef style competition where the ingredients are ideas and the dishes are comics! Kittyhawk, Erin Ptah, and others are celebrity judges. Allez comics!
Panel: "Manga, Literacry, and Children"
Room: Panel 2
Time: Friday, 10:15 - 11:15 AM
Find out what goes on behind the scenes of the CCP. How can manga be used to encourage student interest in reading and writing? What are ways to develop your own program? Can comics really be used to conduct meaningful research? (Hint: Yes.) John Baird and Erin Ptah lead this panel.
