Ray Griggs needs a boot to the head.

Hm.
Through a series of events starting with news that MAD magazine is scaling back, I stumbled across the blog of MAD illustrator Tom Richmond, which in turn talks about his other current work, including production work for a movie called “Super Capers,†with a protagonist named — pause for geeky effect — Ed Gruberman.
I wouldn’t be much of a Frantics fan — heck, I wouldn’t be much of a comedy fan — if that name didn’t ring a very big bell. I mean, Ed Gruberman. Ed Gruberman. Ed Gruberman.
Looking up “Super Capers†on IMDB, I can’t see any evidence of Frantic involvement — just some guy named Ray Griggs, doing what looks to be a Mystery Men redux. So there are a few options here:
1. Rick, Paul, Dan and Peter are jake with this.
2. Ray Griggs is somebody who, when making a comedy movie, never even thought to Google up his main character’s name and see what the very first results were.
3. Ray Griggs is a jackass.
This comes from a place of some conflict: first, I am honour-bound as somebody that grew up watching Four On The Floor to take umbrage when somebody rips on the greatest Canadian comedy team of all time. Well, maybe second greatest.
Second, as the long-standing writer of a similarly themed comic strip that is, frankly, probably funnier than something called “Super Capers†is bound to be, there is more than a touch of jealousy here. And also a bit of dread that I’ll see some of my jokes in there too. I’m off to scan the IMDB for characters named Vivisectus.
