John Allison's Inside Joke?

At least I take it that the recent request for 20,000 in donations for Allison to buy a car (which links to this page) is a not-so-subtle play on R K Milholland's recent successful fundraiser for his webcomic Something Positive. I laughed and than I wondered whether Allison was making a positive, a negative or any kind of comment at all.
Mostly I laughed. I doubt much more was meant than that.
