I actually posted recently on the old comixpedia about how someone had decided that this cartoon was anti-zionist and offensive. At the time I challenged the premise of his argument and explained why it wasn't. Which was fine, then at the end somebody chimed in, saying they had similar reservations and he'd be watching us in future. I half thought, as did a lot of the people who replied to the last post, it was someone having a laugh but it seems not.
Now, they've come back making all sorts of accusations about this, a fairly simple cartoon playing on the term Think Tank, and threatening to report us to the Anti-Defamation League and Save The Children. Now the guys obviously a bit of crank with too much time on his hands but I really would prefer not to have him returning every other week to with an ever increasingly pathological complaint.
Any advice for now or if it goes any further would be greatly appreciated. I have a fair idea of how handle but I don't want to be caught short either.
Your work is fine. I wouldn't worry about that person one bit.
If you are the author and artist of the work in question then YOU are the absolute authority on it... not him/her. Remember, "Interpretation" never supercedes "Intent". Only you know exactly what your intentions are. If someone has a problem with your work then, then it is up to them to ask for some clarification (which in your case they have done). If you have been truthful with them and they still CHOOSE to disagree with you then it is no longer your problem, it's THEIR problem; and it is always best to leave it at that.
I know it can be a headache dealing with "activist" types. They mean well enough, but sometimes they can get themselves SO worked up they experience some pretty serious mental brown-outs.
So long as you are honest with your critics (and detractors) then defending yourself shouldn't be too difficult. Just keep repeating yourself, eventually they'll get the message or get bored and move on.
Good luck.
Dude, screw this guy, he's off his rocker.
I say use the drama keep people coming back to the site. If this guy realizes being a douche is helping your strip, he may bolt on principle.
It is worth noting hostages usually die when I'm negotiating, so proceed with caution.
I wouldn't worry about these wackos, bifsniff. You've got great material, and like others have already said, I think it's someone's getting off on your responses to his/her posts. Ignore 'em.
I remember someone wrote a note complaining how one of my toons (which included a polar bear beating up a guy) was making fun of bipolar disorders. He even wrote in a letter to the editor to the magazine in which the 'toon was published in. Sheesh. Some people have nothing else better to do then complain.
Bottom line: wackos are out there on teh interwebs. Take 'em for what they're worth.

What the hell is wrong with you? What kind of sick, twisted excuse for a human being would make a comic mocking the struggle for democratic reform in China? Did the blood of students spilled at Tiananmen Square in 1989 mean nothing to you? You disgust me.

LOL :D
bifsniff - I cannot imagine that your intention with that comic was to be "anti-zionist and offensive"... and the idea of your Think Tank comic being offensive is... well that's even more of a stretch... but if this particular reader you mention feels that way... ah what can you do?! You can't please everyone, but you can add me to the list of folks who really appreciate your work - Great stuff! :)
It may be that it's late, or maybe I've been sniffing too many sharpies, but I think you've made this up as a ploy to get us to check out your site. And it's brilliant! Twice now, I've followed the link to your site, addicted to teh drama - and you know it. You're a jedi master of webcomic marketing sir! And now I'm off to figure out how to steal this idea!!
OH NOES!!! Check it out! www.Fabricari.com! Someone is suing me because my comic about a robot pornographer has inspired their kids to start pimping robots....
No. Sorry. It won't work. I'm gonna have to come up with another gimmick. Damn it. All the good ones are taken.
Here's the irony -- that guy is actually breaking the law and could end up in jail.
Seriously.

[quote:255a6f9ef5="bifsniff"]J-Sun, the so-called anti-zionist wasn't meant to be but in all fairness, it was a fantastic interpretation and I almost wish I had thought of it.
. . .
Anyway, we have a cartoon coming up that's going to have him hopping. So that'll be fun.
LOL! I'll be waiting for it all... both the comic and the comments to follow!
:D
Actually-- that article about the new laws of annoying someone are a bit overblown--- as reported on BoingBoing--
BUT wow-- for someone to find that comic offensive-- MAN-- they have a thin, thin skin.
Have you gotten death threats? I have. Those are awesome!

When people contact you and tell you how much they love your work, that means you're doing well. When people contact you and tell you how much they HATE your work, that means you've finally hit the big time.
Not that I would know, but DJ -- yeah, he knows. :D

this is true - the infamous always get more attention and makes people more interested in checking out what all the fuss is about.
welcome to the world of comics - where anything you do, even the most innocuous thing has the potential to piss somebody off.
(heh, if you ain't then you're doing something wrong!)
of course, if the person is a crackpot psychotic you might have problems. i would suggest ignoring them - trying to reason with them or argue with them will only encourage them
I single-handedly beat up an army of zombie Nazis armed with ninja swords and laser guns on the moon once, so I know who he feels.

Actually... in the UK that cartoon would be taken as a comment on state teaching and the outlawed (in state schools) traditional methods of punishing pupils with the cane or strap or just throwing a blackboard duster at them to the level today when any teacher trying to control an unruly pupil will more than likely be charged with assault.

Ninja swords AND laser guns?
Now, see, either one I buy, but both? Now you're stretching the truth.
Anti-zionist?!?! Come on! IT's a joke about a little kid thinking she's a king/queen of some sort because of her name. I see nothing really anti-semetic about it.

No, that makes perfect sense. A skilled ninja can sweep his or her sword at great speed in such a pattern as to form a diffraction grating, capable of quintupling the power of any laser beam passed through it.
Yes, but would zombie Nazis have the speed and dexterity to do that?
Zombies are not known for their lightning reflexes after all.

Ah, but what if those zombie Nazis are cyborgs like they always are?
Atomic cyborg Nazi zombies... hmm. Maybe if they came from the future and were at least partly made of liquid metal, I could buy it. Maybe. But they'd also have to be exclusively hot girls. No guys. I can buy Atomic cyborg Nazi zombie ninja liquid-metal future girls being able to overcome the zombie reflex rule.
