Policy: Administrators

Definitition of Administrator duties

* 1.1 Protecting and editing protected pages (for example, helping choose 48 Hours picks on the Main Page)
* 1.2 Deletion and undeletion of material
* 1.3 Reverting (although editors can revert but with longer steps)
* 1.4 Hiding vandalism from recent changes
* 1.5 Block and unblock
* 1.6 Database queries
* 1.7 Design and wording of the interface

The community does look to administrators to perform essential housekeeping chores that require the extra access administrators are entrusted with. Among them are keeping an eye on new and changed articles to swiftly delete obvious vandalism, welcoming new members using the {{welcome}} tag (although any member is free to do this!) and meeting user requests for help that require administrative access. Since administrators are expected to be experienced members of the community, users seeking help will often turn to an administrator for advice and information.

Bureaucrats have the additional power of creating and deleting administrators. That's about the only difference.

Administrator

* 1. Editors can request administrator status. This is done by emailing admin or leaving a message on their talk pages. An administrator must then "sponsor" the editor.
* 2. Administrator posts a thread in the community portal announcing the candidacy of an editor and links to it in a manner where community members see it. The community debates about wheather he/she should be administrator. A vote is taken.
* 3. 80% vote for the request to be fullfilled.

Some General Guidelines (My opinion in no particular order)

1. Ability to keep one's cool - No history of flamewars
2. Active
3. Made lots of edits
4. Made valueable contributions

Adiminstators cannot grant users administrator ability. Only bureaucrats can. As we get more active, we will need more administrators. Right now, we just need active administrator.

The requirement and process for bureaucrats are the same as administrators except that they have to be administrators to become bureaucrats. For an administrator to be upgraded to a bureaucrat, 90% support is needed.
