The Rampage Network

Well I figured I would make this its own thread so I could answer question if anyone has any ( I will delete if need be). I really hate to pimp my stuff out on forums but it seems to work 70% of the time. Basically, I run a hosting network for artists, specifically those in the field of Webcomics. What I offer is free unlimited hosting (just for the comic), Free Domain, Custom layout, Modified webcomics engine, Complete technical Management, most imporatantly no ads on your site or any banner requirements, and anything else you desire within limit of course. Our motto is "Artists should only have to worry about the art.All you have to do is apply, and if your stuff is good enough you are in. But be warned I am kinda picky; I don't go for sprites, manga, or copied styles. Well, there you have it, if you want to check out some of the comics I host head here The Rampage Network and to apply head here: Application.

Feel Free to ask any questions in this thread.

[quote:307c2e806f="horatio"]I don't go for sprites, manga, or copied styles. I prefer complete originality.
That came across a little harsh. If you don't like sprites or manga or whatever, that's fine. But don't insult the creators that work in those styles with those two sentences. Any style can be used with originality. Every comic is not going to reinvent the form in a unique way.

Disclaimer: the author of this post makes a manga-style comic and is a little tired of this kind of broad "manga is unoriginal" statement at the moment. Hopefully I'm being overly sensitive and if so, "Sorry!"

I don't really see how I insulted those styles. I just don't like them as much.I apologize for having an opinion on how I should invest my money. I promise it won't happen again.

Hey, I said I was sorry if I was being overly sensitive! Don't mind me, no need to take your ball and go home.

And it wasn't that you don't like those styles - everyone has different tastes.

The intarwub is a harsh mistress.

Do I actually come off that much as a cocky jerk? it seems I have been a lot of bad press thanks a mr inkmonkey among things and I guess I am to blame.

I think it's great services like this exist for all those penniless webcomickers out there.

When you start out you're always terrified your comic is going to become insanely popular overnight and you'll be left with an insurmountable hosting bill. This is before you learn how terribly difficult it is to make a comic insanely popular.

Also, I agree with you Horiatio. It's your money, why wouldn't you support the type of webcomics you enjoy. That's how patronage works, as far as I'm aware.

Thanks Spargs, I greatly appreciate the support. One thing just to add, we are not only for those without any money, but also for those with little money and those who are having to pay a fortune because of high bandwidth use.

For the curious thinking about signing up, I'd check into what kind of rights over your work you possibly end up exchanging for "free" hosting. As the old saying goes "there ain't no such thing as a free lunch". If the site isn't paying for hosting with advertising that means they're going to be making up the money another way.

horatio's picture

Haha it's really funny you bring that up. I hated that other hosting networks called their services free when it was full of ads or the network's banner everywhere, this motivated me to start my own. So yes in my book its more free than anything else out there. The only place you will see ads are on the forum and main network site, the way I pay for hosting is through my own pocket and the gracious gifts I receive during the holidays.

Going back to what rights you retain, you retain all of them. Like I have said, you are kept really out of the whole ownership deal with the network, you won't even have to share a url with the main network, (blah.com/comic or comic.blah.com) You get your own domain shortly after joining. I hope my rambling answered your question.

aw no more questions?

Is there a tricky contract that artist will have to sign that directly constradict your claim of "No string attached"?

horatio's picture

They dont sign anything at all. I hope that answers your question :D

As Horatio said, it's pretty dang philanthropic at this point, but we already have a few ads on the forums and will eventually sell 'sponsor' ad space to comics or other comic-collectives for the main page. The idea being to maintain the atmosphere and integrity of the site.

One of the concerns that Ghastly might have in mind is censorship. He's been on the forefront of adult webcomics and I have a lot of respect for his approach to expanding the medium beyond what you find in any newspaper. It is exactly for that reason that we highly rank applicants with something innovative and unique to bring to Webcomics. Because Rampage is host to many primarily "clean" comics, however, we will not be hosting explicitly adult material. While there are examples of nudity, violence, and language, we take into consideration during the selection process whether or not the author's work is tasteful and appropriate in the realm of their story, or if it's explicitly "mature". Once accepted, the content is entirely in the hands of the authors. - and if they create merch or books to make money off of their own comic, again, it is theirs entirely.
