A Newbie Question

Hi,

First time posting here and I had a question: aside from Keenspace, are there any other inexpensive (ie free) webhosts for comic creators that anyone knows of?

Thanks!

Free is a rare thing. I'm currently hosted out of a friend's closet since I'm poor, but things are okay with that.

Drunk Duck is an awesome site though. You can post your comics AND get feedback. Best thing to ever happen to Kota's World and my ego.

www.drunkduck.com

It's fast and it rocks. :D

an old axiom...

as a general note...

you get what you pay for.

sometimes you do get more... but that's rare.

I'm currently on angelfire, which works just fine for me, but when we start getting popular, I worry about being unavailable due to bandwidth and such. Until then, I'm content. Not happy, but content.

before I was on zianet I was hosted at topcities. 150 megs free space. Of course, it also comes with banner ads and suckey bandwidth. *sigh*
But I liked it a lot better than tripod.

EyeShock.

You have to go through a screen process first, though, but it's free, and they ahev their own updating codes and you can still make your own websites.

No problem, Zedd. Just promoting a wicked webcomic service.

One of my freinds has found decent hosting for as low as 99 cents per month... the problem is of course that you need to pay for a dot com as well. so your initial investment would be some thing like 15.99 then only 99 cents per month after that... seems like a good deal to me.

I prefer to go with an independant host, as well (Ipowerweb). I pre-paid $96 for a years service (not something everyone can do, I understand), but it's been GREAT! No ads, no pop-ups, COMPLETE control of my own content, and if I want another type of scripting supported, I can call up the admins and whine until they install it. :-D

Of course, I also had to write my own PHP and HTML, but I actually enjoyed that (So I'm a geek! Sue me!). Oh, and the only downside I've really disliked about IPowerWeb: No command-line shell access, just this crappy web-based control panel and FTP access. *sigh* I miss command lines. :-(

webcomicsnation is coming from MT - 4.95 a month I think. Also Keenprime is like 9.95 I think.

Free is getting harder to come by I think...

Hey This is Zedd from Eyeshock. Wanted to stop in and thank the admins of Comixpedia for the link. I'll try to repay the favor real soon. :-)

Thanks to KoS for the mention to.

Getting host for free is a myths. It is getting payed for you. However I prefer paying host and independent operation(no ad form host, listed in a forum, ect). I never want to be hosted with a free host, because it more likey to go out of business. I don't recommaned keenspace or drunkduck. No webcomic host I found was really good. If it a free host, than I tend to skip them. I don't care if they offer good sevice.

Of course it been pay for you by ads. There something I don't want to be host by free webcomic host such as keenspace. Intergeted community is not what I want and ads on every page is not good. I also tend to skip free host. I am looking forwards for succes for webcomicsnation. So I don't have to worry about them going out of bussines. I want a host that specized in webcomic without forcing me to put up ads, list in their database. And forced adistverting on their website. I could like independent for myself. I don't mind paying as long as they cheap, depenable, and surivable(makes themself money in order to surive is also good for webcomic, since it be there to provide serivce). Also allow advanced software that I might need in the future.
