Promotion: Trading Links?

Anyone here doing it, would like to do it, think ing of doing it?
If you are, is it effective?
If you're thinking of doing it, why haven't you already?
And if you don't want to do it, why not?

I personally am a bit nervous about trading links. I don't really know why -- prehaps the commitment?

Despite my own misgivings, my partner keeps suggesting it and I'm inclined to agree with her.

What are your thoughts on it?

Hummmm.. Alot of web comics do it, that is for sure. Some trade links and so on. It is a nice thing to do, most comics do it, so it can';t be all that bad. LOL, but it helps some times ^_^ As for me, I am willing to trade links when the time comes, I have my site it is still a baby but I would do it if I was offer to... I did it once or twice already so It might work..

Javascript includes. Ew.

I hear that now and again about javascript but can you tell me what exactly leads to your "Ew"? The cool thing about blogrolling to me is it is (1) automatic linkback (I do nothing); and (2) part of an "ecosystem" that tracks links in and out of sites (that leads to some interesting meta information).

And Kota - you don't need to blog to use blogrolling, I use it only for webcomics myself - see xerexes.burntdogradio.com for me using it as my list of webcomics that I read (well when I get time).

Re: Javascript

They do have alternatives to the Javascript version, if that's not your thing. There are PHP, CSS, and table-formatted versions, as well as RSS and OPML feeds you can use. To integrate a blogroll into my own site, I use the RSS feed and a PHP-based RSS parser;that allowed me to manipulate the blogroll data however I saw fit (if you look here, you can see how well my blogroll fits in with the rest of my site's "Links" section).

Now that I have the blogroll all set up, I'm lovin' it. Whenever I stumble across a really nifty site, I can just click on a button in my browser and it's automagically formatted and added to my links section...no muss, no fuss. I just did it with Xerexes' blog, as a matter of fact (jinkies...that's a lotta webcomics).

Of course, this is all a bit of a moot point at present, since the Blogrolling service is currently closed to new users until the person running it figures out how to deal with all the unforeseen traffic it's been getting.

Oops I didn't know that - I'll have to drop in on the blogrolling site again.

I also didn't know about the alternate ways of including blogrolls into a site. PHP would make a lot of sense. I'll have to look into that. I've also been doing a lot of playing around with RSS lately. Bloglines.com is a great web-based RSS reader if anyone's interested.

Addendum

Just wanted to give a heads-up that, according to their news page, Blogrolling.com will be accepting new users again, starting tomorrow.
