Amen, brother! Okay, I'm not familiar with Karen Black or her works, but there's definitely a classic twist-in-the-tale feeling to this piece.

Good catch- trilogy of terror was exactly the influence. The last segment scared the crap out of me as a kid (and I got in deep dooodoo for letting my sister watch it). I as re-reminded of that flick when confronting the Flayers in Diablo II.
