Ad Campaigns for Comixpedia

Two things we could use some help with -
1. Suggestions on places to advertise Comixpedia online and offline.
2. Specific ideas for ads - collectively the readership of Comixpedia has to be much wittier than me, myself and I so fire away. Just to throw out an example if Comixpedia bought the Keenspot newsbox for a day how would you use it?
Fire away!

Comixpedia - Because Entertainment Weekly STILL doesn't know what a webcomic is.

How about Sequential Tart? Only about $30 a month...
Comicon.com ? About $125, but big readership...
You banner could read: "Learn about Damonk's sex life at....
COMIXPEDIA!

Subtley, and a good joke work well together, mix in a bit of shock value and away you go.
How bout: There's more to the web than porn.... Comixpedia.
or: There's stuff to read outside the text balloon too! Comixpedia.
Or something, well, that's my first post, time to move on.
by Justinpie - 12/09/2003 - 22:18

No. No, you won't. And after that Gollum thing, you shouldn't be allowed to. :D
Sledgebunny: a rollergirl comic -- go ahead; jam it!

I like "Think Outside The Balloon."
Which leads me to "Think Outside The Panel."
Or "ComixPedia and comics... our minds are ALWAYS in the gutter." (Cuz the gutter's the bit between panels... getit? Haw.)
Or "JUXTAPOSE THIS PICTORIAL!" with some accompanying slightly rude imagery (Per Scott McCloud's "juxtaposed pictorial or other images in deliberate sequence")
Or "Read ComixPedia - we're more interesting than your real life."
Ok, time to stop.

If it matters, I just chipped in some free advertising on my Featured sites box.

For the keenspot newsbox I would think that something more cinematic would be good. Like a flash animation that went:
You own all the Bob the Angry Flower books...
You named your first son Tycho...
The word "Yoi" is a permanent part of your vocabulary...
You're addicted to webcomics. We can help.
COMIXPEDIA
Sort of dramatic, black background, fading in text, and then the comixpedia logo flying in at the end. Something like that. Yeah.

Frodo's idea has a lot of potential there! Hmmmm....

Comixpedia: 'cause you can never get enough 'bout webcomics
'All about webcomics directly from webcomiccers'
Comixpedia: a webcomic special/complete, but without cheese
Hope these ones help...
by Frodo - 12/10/2003 - 20:28
That's cause I'm an idea man. :D

Augh. Flash ads in keenspot box make me break out in hives. Distracting animation in secondary content is bad and wrong and distracting and ick ick ick ick ick ick ick ick ick ick.
by Creepy - 12/11/2003 - 21:59
A comic image in an ad I've always seen as effective is the Marvel logo animation at the beginning of their movies. That flash by page thingy is captivating, subtle and intriguing.
For me, I'm here to read about webcomics and discuss them. While chocolate pudding jokes (and other bits of strange humour) can be funny, they don't draw (no pun intended) me to this site. I prefer the serious discussion.
I just boiled down to a point in my head. What's the demographic for the readers of this site? Perhaps gathering this information first and tailoring an ad to predominent groups and their interests in related topics would be more effective than a funny tag line(unless it relates to the focus). Can't these forums do polls? I think they can... Hey Xerexes! Steal this idea!
