Lookee Lookee

Forgive the hugeness.. I just wanted to finally post some of my work for people to see.

This is essentialy what all the characters will look like... aside from obvious changes in shape size and gender anyway.

so..uhm.. whatcha think?

Very impressive 24 :) I especially like how you did his eyes and nose. It's very cartoonish :) (a style I've been having trouble getting myself, I can get a semblance of REALlife comics but not the cartoonish style you use :)). I also like his shoulders and hair. But most of all, I like his head and how you've shaped it. Mainly because I've been noticing the shape of people's heads lately and they're not easy (for me) to draw, but you got it spot on.

Did you use any tutorials to get this style down pat so well?

Oh, and I've bookmarked it. I use to read a TON of webcomics but I've been whittled down to 1 for the time being ;) Any idea when you'll start publishing?

[EDIT]: Oh I just noticed his mouth, that too is well done :)

[EDIT EDIT]: You haven't got a home button on your website and unlike on the other pages the homepage covers some of the background ;) (yes, I just had a quick look despite there being nothing :) you probably already knew it but I thought I'd say it just in case ;))

Thanks Rick. When I said I couldn't find one name for who did Character Design for Iron Giant I meant I couldn't find who was responsible for the specific style of the human characters of the movie. Usually you can peg one or maybe two artists for the style. The Giant himself had about 5 artists designing him he's more of a special case.

This article (http://www.cooljapanesetoys.com/clubcjt/03_00/irongiant.cfm) might shed some light on The Iron Giant.

I'd assume that the same artists responsible for the robot were involved in the other character designs.

...

Jae: Good eye! I built this guy in flash on multiple layers. I never gave him shoulders or anything.. this is what happens when your personal work starts after 10 at night :D.I fixed up his neck/sweater issues last night along with darkening the outlines of his skin. I'll post a newer version later next week along with another character.

Re: Lookee Lookee

Uncle Ghastly's picture

Kind of reminds me of The Iron Giant animated movie character designs. Very nice.

Re: Lookee Lookee

Very nice! I'm generally not a big fan of the flat colors, but your style works well with that. Great expressions, good body language; I see personality in these drawings. There's one thing that bugs me, though - on the inside of his collar on the right side (his left), there's a spot that's white, but it's supposed to be the inside of his blue shirt... Stupid, I know! But for some reason that one spot just jumped out at me since it's that way in 3 poses....

Nope, I've been drawing for about 7 years now and I took 3 years of Animation classes. This guy is just the style I've been developing since... 99 actually :D

The home button is in the works, I'm gonna throw something together tonight along with a contact button. But the homepage covering part of the background... and the other pages not doing that.... now thats odd...*checks*....Well thats cool. I'll have to figure out how that happened.

Thanks for takin a look John, be sure to check back after the 11th!

Just an itsy bitsy teeny lil plug... my first comic was posted a few minutes ago. I'll post an announcement after a week or two passes so people will have somethin to read. But I can't help but post a lil somethin right now.

Anywho.. the site is poo right now.. I don't even have previous and next comic buttons on the comics yet :p I love how work kinda jumps in onto your plans and takes a big ol crap on em

Anywho.. I'll be up for most of tonight fixin the site.. if anyone in here takes a looksee feel free to make suggestions on what I need :D

Well today's comic was a quiet chuckle :) The only thing I'd suggest is keeping the border entirely black ;) (you have a bit of white on the left border in the first frame ;)).

Good luck :)

HA! wicked, I guess this is the webcomic equivalent of your underwear sticking out of your pants. The white showing was the old placeholder. Consider it zapped :D

thanks John
