Anyone Knowledgeable about Syndication?

I’m interested in learning more about syndication, but don’t even know how to start looking. My online comic is currently printed by a magazine in Chicago. I don’t have an exclusive contract with them and would like get my strip into more papers.

Generally when people talk about syndication, it’s in reference to mainstream crap like Garfield and Family Circus. But I’ve also noticed that alternative strips like Red Meat and Life in Hell make it into quite a few rags. I’m sure that those guys don’t have separate contracts with every single paper that publishes their work. Somebody is taking care of that. I would like to find out who (is there just one big syndication group or different companies with different audiences?) and what the qualifications/stipulations are to join.

I realize this isn’t directly related to webcomics, but I’m sure somebody out there in Comixpedia land can point me in the right direction.

Well there are a load of them - just some links that I have to hand are.

It's very hard to break into but if you're being regularly published already it's a good start.

Thanks, dude. A few of those links were really helpful. I notice you have a link to Red Meat on your site. Do you happen to know who syndicates that strip? Or any other good comics like that, which don't normally get published in mainstream newspapers?
